Many of us have seen injured animals in our yards and have rushed to aid them. And sometimes our pets do the same, as best they can.

Thanks to Crystal Kelley and her Yorkshire terrier Lily, a local bird was saved from a frigid death.

They came across a frozen bird on a cold winter day and had to figure out how to save it without having any previous knowledge of animal rescuing.

It was Lily who first spotted the bird. The snow was coming down that day when Lily wanted to go outside and play in it.

So, Crystal let her out to play in the yard.

Lily was playing around and having a great time. That’s when Crystal noticed that Lily became hyperfocused on something in the snow.

She walked over to Lily to find out what she was so focused on. She soon found that it was a frozen bird that was lying on the ground.

“You leave the birdy alone. You need to come inside Lily,” she told her dog. “No, leave the birdy alone come here.”

She picked Lily up and brought the adorable beyond words dog inside the house.

“My Yorkie helped me find this bird, as you can see she was very sweet to it and I was so afraid she would start hurting it so I got a little panicked lol. My sweet Lily. Yorkies are the best,” Crystal wrote on Facebook.

Once Lily was back inside, she went back for the bird.

“This poor baby bird is frozen and I don’t know anything about what to do,” Crystal explained in a video of her rescuing the bird.

She then came up with a brilliant idea. She decided she would use her blow dryer to thaw the bird out.

“I’m gonna, I can’t bring my blow dryer outside so I covered him or her in a blanket and I’m going to put her in the sun and I’m just hoping it doesn’t die,” she explained.

Crystal gently started to blow dry the bird on the dryer’s lowest setting.

The bird was soon thawed out and began to move around a little bit but still couldn’t flap its wings.

What’s amazing is that the bird could walk, but stood still and allowed Crystal to finish blow drying her.

Even after the bird could move his wings, he just stood there for a minute.

It seemed like he was loving the warm air.

But eventually, he hopped off and then flew away.
