What is more intrinsic to a dog’s life than seeing something being thrown, chasing, bringing it back, and repeating for hours on end? This game of fetch has been going on for thousands of years and brings humans AND dogs endless joy.
Humans have turned this funny behavior into something useful!
Bird dogs and gun dogs are an essential piece of a hunters toolkit! When freezing water stand between you and a recently acquired bird, a dog is more than willing to dive headlong into the deep to retrieve your prize.
While some dogs seem naturally gifted with fetching and retrieving, some… aren’t as much.
All dogs aren’t the same, especially when it comes to athletic ability! All it takes is a quick lap around the house to get a Pug huffing and puffing. That same lap with a Vizsla or a Collie is likely not even to get their tongue out.
These dogs seem to have “missed” the gift of fetch.
In a hilarious compilation video, these dogs demonstrate some fetch fails that are sure to make you chuckle. The first one of the whole compilation is easily one of my favorites. Have you ever seen a dog completely miss the point? Well, this one sure did! Leaping past the toy, he jumps headlong into the water and has no idea he zoomed past it.
“The Unconcerned pup.”
This example shows us what an unconcerned pup looks like! His owner throws a frisbee to him and the dog doesn’t move at all! The frisbee hits him on the head and bounces off to the floor. Fetch?
“Wrong Way”
It’s not too hard to trick our dogs into going the wrong way. This one just seems like it was tricked without his owner even trying! The poor little guy is probably just gonna end up running forever in the wrong direction.
“So Close”
Sometimes you go for it all…. and just completely fail. This poor pup jumped way up into the air, hoping to get a good latch onto this ball. Unfortunately, he timed it COMPLETELY wrong and is about to hit the ground a bit harder than he is used to.
“Tiny Arms”
This little guy has been trying to reach his ball for a few minutes now. He was born with a wonderfully cute face but the tiniest of arms! He is SO close. He may get it one day.
“Flipping Out”
Taking off running towards a large, red ball, this dog hits it going full speed and it launches him across the field! I have to guess that this dog got at least five feet in the air wit ha full flip.
“Too Fast!”
When you are running too fast, sometimes you just can’t stop! This bulldog was absolutely intent on getting that football and forgot that a bulldog in motion, stays in motion!
Conclusion.
While all dogs may not be gifted with incredible agility or fetch skills, we can still laugh, watching them try. So much of our relationships with dogs revolves around us laughing at the goofy things they do and us loving them for it.
