I think most of us would react the same way. 🤷

Passing gas is normal.

Barring any serious health conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Chron’s disease, farting is nothing to be concerned about. According to Health24, the average person farts anywhere from 14-24 times a day. So, while you’re bound to fart in front of somebody at some point, there are still rules of etiquette that should be observed.

Most people find it unpleasant to be walking around only to be hit by an unexpected assault on the nostrils. As such, most of us try to pass gas while we’re alone. Whether it be in the privacy of our own home, a bathroom, or even outside— it doesn’t take much to excuse yourself for a few moments while you get the deed done.

When considering the etiquette involved in passing gas, Laura Hensley wrote for the National Post: “There’s a difference between excusing yourself to emit a vapor or two and carelessly farting around town— the latter is vile and something no civilized person should ever do.”

Of course, there are always rebels within these systems. In this case, it’s the proud public farters who don’t care who they’ll offend with their biological “gifts”. Unfortunately, our furry pals are often guilty of these offenses.

Not to say they’re to blame, but animals don’t abide by silly social constructs like farting rules. Animals will let loose whenever and wherever they want without any input from you. For the most part, this is accepted in the animal kingdom— but when this sleeping dog farted in the presence of his company, the kitty friend had an unexpected comeback.

In the hilarious 20-second video, you see a dog sleeping next to his cat friend.

They’re both laying on a cozy, blue bed, and the dog seems completely at ease. He’s fallen into a deep slumber— and judging by the slight grin on his face, I’m willing to bet he’s having a good dream. At one point, however, he gets a bit too relaxed.

After about ten seconds, the dog lets out a fart in his sleep.

As he hears the noise, the cat suddenly looks over, slowly tilting its head as it observes the sleeping dog. “Did that really just happen?” it seems to be asking in disbelief.

Then, out of the nowhere, the offended cat swats the dog a few times on the head.

The poor pup is semi-conscious and completely oblivious to what’s gone on. After waking up momentarily, he lays his head down and goes back to sleep.

Since being uploaded, the animals’ hilarious interaction has been viewed over 8 million times.

The cat’s actions are so hilarious and human-like, it’s hard not to fall in love. Maybe there’s also a factor of immaturity, bringing timeless humor to fart jokes of all kinds. Whatever the case, people adore the footage, and comments on the video read:

“Marriage in a nutshell.”

“I keep laughing because the cat looks deeply offended. Couldn’t let it go… unlike the dog.”

“Omg, I’m crying. I watched this at least 10 times, and it’s more funny than it was the first time.”
