Losing a pet can cause serious heartache. You just want to know they’re okay. And when you reunite with them, all you want to do is hug them tightly.
Finding a missing dog.
There may be one or two missing dog posters you’ll come across as you walk on your neighborhood. Despite the best technologies today, people sometimes can’t prevent their dog from escaping. There may be times when we’re the ones who’s careless, but sometimes, it is the dog who manages to get out. Imagine how worried one could get after realizing that their pet is gone.
Unfortunately, this happened in Texas.
On the Fourth of July in Frisco, Texas, a family and their dog named Dora were happily hanging out in their own backyard. The entire yard was fenced, and the family often let Dora out without worrying about her escaping or getting away. Unfortunately, something happened that they never expected.
Most people probably know what happens during Fourth of July.
Fourth of July is marked as the day of Independence in the United States. It is an annual celebration that people love to go all out. The usual tradition in celebrating the event was to blow up some fireworks. However, as humans enjoy the celebration, dogs are often disturbed by its loud sound. They would immediately try to scurry off and find a place to hide.
When the fireworks started going off, Dora panicked and took off.
Dora was startled by the fireworks’ sounds and panicked without the family knowing. The once durable fence was easily destroyed as Dora was desperate to get away from the noise. The moment the family realized that she was missing, it was already too late.
The family spent weeks trying to look for the missing Dora.
They yelled and called, posted missing posters, but to no luck. Weeks went on and they were worried as to where Dora was hiding. Dora might not have been eating or was straying further away from them. Their worries only grew day by day, until they almost lost hope on trying to find her. However, they still never gave up on trying other ways to find her. They believe that their perseverance will pay off in the end.
Meanwhile, the dog found its way in an animal shelter.
For seven months, the dog was missing. Finally Dora was picked up by an animal shelter in McKinney, Texas. Luckily, when they tried scanning her for a microchip, they immediately found out that the dog has an owner. They then contacted Dora’s owners, telling them to drop by the shelter.
Almost a year later, Dora was home!
Imagine as the family walked inside the shelter to see Dora safely on a leash handled by the shelter staff. I bet the owners were crying the whole time.
It is incredible enough that Dora was able to survive the entire time on her own! When she finally saw her beloved dad, she looked pitiful. They spent their sweet reunion with hugs and pats, and finally Dora was able to go home after almost a year.
You’d never know that this might happen to you in the future.
It is best to have your pets implanted with a microchip as a precaution to this situation. In fact, thanks to Dora’s microchip, the shelter staff was able to reunite her with her owners. Without it, it’s unlikely they would have ever found their sweet girl again.
