When they first saw him, they thought his chances were slim.
Laura Forma received a call from an old couple about a dog on their property. They said that the dog suddenly collapsed and fell to the ground. It wasn’t surprising though as he was terribly underweight and has scabs covering his body. His bones were sticking out like there’s no muscle between his skin and bones.
When Laura called for him, the dog lifted his head up despite the obvious struggle.
Laura believes that he used up all of his remaining strength just to greet whoever it was who approached him.
The team quickly called for help and covered the dog with a blanket to keep him warm. He was getting weaker and weaker by the second and Laura was beginning to get anxious if he’s even going to make it.
“The closest ER was over an hour away from Cleveland,” she said to the animal channel The Dodo, “and it was the longest hour ever.”
All throughout their ride, Laura kept on looking at the husky just to make sure if he’s still breathing okay.
Fortunately, he made it to the clinic, but just barely.
They carried him into the facility where he received immediate care.
The dog wasn’t really in great shape. His eyes were sunk and he can barely walk, but his spirits are high, which is welcome news.
“I think it took about a week for him to open his eyes.” She added, “And we realized they were blue. Bright blue.”
And it’s as bright as his disposition.

One week later, the husky is now active on his feet. Despite plasters of bandages and a cone around his neck, he’s out and about, greeting his doctors and caregivers.
Even if he’s not in his best shape yet, he already wants to give life a go. He’s always up with his tail wagging behind him, ready to jump on the next thing that interests him.
But his recovery is only the first step to his new lease on life.
He was eventually transferred to a foster home where he can rehabilitate. Even if only patches of fur dotted his skin and his weight still has a long way to go, there’s already a big difference from the day they found him.
If there’s one way to describe what he’s feeling, it’s that he’s just happy to be still alive and well.
Things that never interested him at first quickly became his routine. Tug-of-war toys, fetch balls, even squeaky toys became his favorite things. Backyards became his favorite places where he’d spend hours playing and running around.
Underneath the scars and the pain was a dog ready to live and ready to love.
And thankfully, he was found at the moment where he needed it the most.
The husky was eventually adopted by Lauren. He’s called Jake now and he’s living his best life. He now lives with his grumpy brother Jasper who quickly became his best friend.
“Jake’s story gives me the chills, just thinking about it. ” Lauren said to The Dodo, “It just made me believe that miracles do happen. I think the reason that he enjoys everything the way that he does is because he knows what it’s like to be without it.”
Watch how this dog opens his eyes to a new life of love.
