They say that dogs and cats are natural enemies, but one short video is challenging that theory. Well, maybe not. But it’s proving that dogs and cats can take care of each other, even if they’re different sizes!

In a video uploaded to YouTube, a German Shepherd and a kitten go up a staircase together.

The Shepherd, of course, has no trouble at all. But the tiny kitten struggles to get up the stairs. Finally, the Shepherd decides he’s had enough. He turns and starts trying to help the kitten.

Understandably, the kitten flinches at first when the Shepherd tries to bite it.

Wouldn’t you be nervous if something so much bigger than you tried to bite your head? But the pup is just trying to pick up the kitten. Finally, he manages to lift the tiny cat like he’s its mother.

Carrying it gently in his mouth, the Shepherd walks up the stairs and sets it back on the floor.

People on the internet can’t get enough of the gentle dog and his tiny friend.

“Tennyson the German Shepherd watched as of his newly adopted kitten struggled to hop upstairs,” reads the video description. “He immediately leapt into action and carried him up to the top, then proceeded to cuddle with him.”

People were impressed by how gentle and patient the dog was.

He was willing to try out different ways to lift the kitten to avoid hurting it.

“Dog made so many attempts to lift the kitten, only to make sure that he doesn’t hurt the little one,” said one commenter.

Others pointed out how the Shepherd gives the kitten’s tail a soft nudge at the top of the stairs. It seems like he wants to apologize for the rough method of transport. The kitten might look a little startled, but he recovers with a snuggle.

Some people said they’ve experienced similar things with their own dogs.

“This reminds me of when my Pitbull came in from outside, opened her mouth and out came a tiny kitten,” said one commenter. “Wet but perfectly fine. The Pit then went back out and brougt 3 more home. Turned out the Momma cat had died, possibly right after giving birth. And the Pitty found the babies and brought them home. To this day, the Pitty treats those cats as her pups. Still holding them down for a bath.” [sic]

It’s amazing to see how animals adopt one another, even when they’re not from the same species!

It goes to show how loving and empathetic animals are.

The best part, as some people pointed out, was the relationship that’s sure to come for these furry friends.

“That dog just does not understand what awaits him,” said one commenter. “She will jump on him, sleep on him, live on him…”

There’s no word on how Tennyson and the cat are doing now. But we suspect they’re still the best of friends!
