It’s quite remarkable how there’s a website or program for almost anything now. Want to learn how to cook? Want to earn a degree? Want to find out more about your ancestry? Or maybe you want to learn more about your adopted dog’s ancestry?

Yes, there are websites for those, including learning more about your dog’s history. It’s called Wisdom Panel.

How does it work?

Once you’ve registered on the website, they’ll send you a DNA kit to swab your dog or cat. Make sure to swab your fur baby two hours after eating and there’s no food residue on the gums. Just follow the instructions in the packet and you’ll be okay. Send the DNA swab and after two to three weeks, you’ll get your fur baby’s genetic results.

With the results, you’ll be able to learn your fur baby’s breed, if they’re purebred or a cross with another breed. You’ll also be able to check their medical history, especially if they’re genetically predisposed to certain diseases.

This test will also give your dog or cat’s genetic relative match. According to the website, “Over 99.9% of dogs in our database have a relative.”

And that’s what happened to Andrea Riggle, of Houston, Texas, and her dog, Renlee.

Shortly after she adopted Renlee, she did the Wisdom Panel DNA test for him. She sent it in and got the results but never logged back in again. So she was surprised when someone from Oregon contacted her about her dog.

It turns out that Melanie Morrison, of Springfield, Oregon, wanted to learn more about Sir Lancelot’s DNA, the dog she recently adopted at the same time Andrea did the test. But Melanie did log back in and she randomly clicked the Relative tab.

“I randomly clicked the Relatives tab and there was Renlee! I instantly though, ‘I need to talk to this dog’s parents,'” Melanie shared.

It took her a while until her father showed her a photo from Instagram that looked exactly like Renlee. So she messaged the answer of the account, who turned out to be a friend of Andrea’s.

This friend connected them both.

When Andrea’s friend told her she received a message on Instagram about Renlee and Wisdom Panel, she immediately logged back in and saw Sir Lancelot in Oregon. It seemed Renlee and Sir Lancelot had the same mother and father because they looked like they came from the same litter.

Andrea and Melanie decided to have the dog brothers meet and reunite with each other in Los Angeles, California.

We don’t know who’s more excited for the reunion, the moms or the dogs. Probably both.

And when Renlee and Sir Lancelot reunited, they ran to each other, their tails wagging in excitement. They couldn’t get enough of each other and they didn’t leave each other’s side the entire time.

It was a great fun time for everyone and we won’t be surprised if the two families will be getting together regularly.
