It really touches my heart to see people who care for stray animals as though they were their own pets. It’s unrealistic to rescue them all, but even going out of your way to make sure they are fed is extremely kind and generous in my eyes.
And based on this story, some strays recognize this unadulterated goodness and are drawn to do something kind in return.
One woman in Thailand named Orawan Kaewla-iat regularly feeds stray dogs near her home.
However, she doesn’t receive anything in return, nor does she expect anything. She dedicates herself to the unselfish gesture as she thinks helping animals in need is its own reward.
But one stray decided Orawan deserved something special for her kindness.
This stray, named Tua Plu, stops by Orawan’s house with his mom every day looking for food.
But rather than delve into the delicious bowls of rice that Orawan always has ready, Tua Plu gives Orawan a little gift in exchange for the food.
“When he’s hungry, he will offer something to get fed,” Orawan wrote on Facebook, which was translated by Coconuts Bangkok. “Every day he shows up with an object in his mouth — usually a leaf and sometimes a piece of paper. Before you feed other dogs, you have to feed Tua Plu and his mom.”
You can see Tua Plu’s polite gesture caught on camera in the video below.
It is not clear where Tua Plu learned such good manners. I like to think that he picked it up from his other mother, Orawan, by seeing how she generously takes away his hunger pains by gifting him with food every day.
Good deeds quickly circulate nowadays, and Tua Plu’s sweet tradition has earned him many new admirers.
Orawan’s video has gone viral in Thailand and beyond, which has stirred interest in adopting Tua Plu.
In the video, Tua Plu is seen wearing a collar, however, this is to keep him safe from persecution stray dogs that Thailand strays often encounter.
Hopefully, those inquiring about adopting Tua Plu will consider giving his mother a forever home too. I’m sure he’d continue his tradition of showing thanks if that happened.
Best wishes to Tua Plu and his mother.
