Dogs care immensely for human life and would save one if they could.
Our beloved fur babies have this innate protectiveness to those they feel need protection, and they would do whatever they can to help and save them.
This dog in Cebu, Philippines, was hailed a hero after it helped save a baby.
It was 11 AM a day before Christmas when a dog named Blacky kept barking and running after a motorist who passed by Magkagong, a mountain barangay in Sibong, Cebu, a province in the Philippines.
The motorist was curious why the dog acted that way, so he went down with his motorcycle, and the dog led him to a grassy area of the dumpsite.
Junrell Fuentes Revilla was shocked to see what the dog showed him.
There he found a newborn baby boy wrapped in a brown towel, part of his umbilical cord still hanging from his navel.
Junrell carried the baby and drove to the nearest police station. Their Women and Children Protection Desk said that they brought the baby under the custody of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
Local media covered this incident, and animal welfare groups started looking for Blacky.
They thought that Blacky was a stray dog since the media reports said that he was.
The police said he was among a group of dogs who frequented the dumpsite, so they assumed he was a stray dog.
Animal welfare group Hope for Strays went to look for this supposedly stray dog.
However, they were surprised that Blacky had a home and a loving one at that.
Hope for Strays Founder Gea Ybarita said that they went to the dumpsite because they wanted to rescue and find a forever home for Blacky.
A man went to the place, and Gea asked him about the dog’s whereabouts, only to be surprised to learn that the man was Blacky’s owner.
He introduced himself to the group and led them to the dog they sought.
A few minutes after, there they were in his home and found Blacky along with his fur siblings.
The owner, Lyndon Olingay, has ten dogs at home, and while they’re trying to make ends meet for themselves, he never leaves his dogs to fend off themselves.
He told Gea:
“No matter how hard life is, even though I’m poor, I feed all of my dogs and take care of them well.”
Gea posted about Lyndon, Blacky, and his other dogs on their Facebook page.
Another animal welfare group, the Pawssion Project, organized a fundraiser to provide some supplies for Lyndon that could help his dogs without taking too much from his pockets.
Kind-hearted souls came together to reach the goal, and Hope for Strays facilitated the turnover of donations.
Citizens did not only donate to Blacky and his siblings but to Lyndon’s family as well.
According to their Facebook post, Hope for Strays handed over “over $180 worth of groceries, two sacks of rice, more than $90 worth of pet supplies, and another $90 in cash” to help the entire family.
Although Blacky might not be aware of it, his heroism not only saved the baby, but also helped his family!
