Starting a new business comes with many unique challenges.

In addition to all the money you have to invest up front, you have to make sure your location is right, your costs aren’t too high and that you’ll have enough customers to keep your venture afloat. Still, all new businesses come with obstacles—and opportunities—that you simply can’t plan for.

For a woman in Brazil, her business came with a new furry companion.

Sabrina Plannerer’s original plan was to buy and run a Shell gas station in Mogi das Cruzes in Brazil.

While she was setting the business up, however, she noticed that there was a dog on-site who wouldn’t leave—and seemingly didn’t have anyone around to care for him. The adorable black lab (named Negao) was abandoned by its previous owner at the station and essentially left to wander the strets. But Plannerer couldn’t help but fall in love with the little pup.

As such, Plannerer decided to help Negao and take care of him herself.

Before anything else, Plannerer made sure his health was in order.

“We adopted him immediately and got him all the care animals need,” she told The Dodo. “We took him to the vet to get vaccinated and de-wormed.” Once all his basic needs were taken care of, Plannerer had an even better idea.

Instead of just adopting Negao she even let him help out at the gas station.

After getting the little guy outfitted with a badge and a visor all his own, Negao started working as a greeter!

Now whenever customers come in, the first thing they see is Negao’s smiling face and wagging tail. “Customers love him,” Plannerer says. “Some people even bring him toys.” Negao has even become something of a foster dog for a local charity called Grupo FERA. The organization’s focus is to pair stray animals with local businesses who could take care of them for when traditional homes are unavailable.

In all, it’s not hard to be touched by Plannerer’s relationship with Negao.

Although there’s a stereotype that businesses have to be cutthroat and ruthless to succeed, this one shows that there’s always room for some humanity. With so many stray dogs and cats out there in the world, it’s good to know that this adorable little boy has a place to call home.
