Like many other dogs who end up in shelters, Bella had a rough life.
She was found in a dark, concrete kennel at a Romanian pound. She got very little exercise or sunlight, and almost no human contact, much less care. When she was rescued, she had severe fleas, as well as spleen and liver problems which had been ignored by the people keeping her.
How anyone could ignore a dog in that condition is beyond me. But thankfully, Howl of a Dog came to her rescue. The non-profit team is dedicated to creating a better world for all homeless dogs in Romania.
“Our efforts aim to build a more compassionate and responsible society. We want to raise awareness and show the world how amazing all animals are and how their unconditional love, loyalty and friendship can bring joy and happiness and improve the lives of their human companions.” – howlofadog.com
Her rescuer recalls finding her, reaching out, and Bella cautiously but gently licking her hand.
They could see she was a good dog with a kind heart, and brought her back to their shelter immediately.
It seemed like she knew was being rescued, and became more relaxed as soon as she left the kennel. Before she even had her veterinary assessment, she was calm and seemed happier than when they’d found her.
“She seemed to have instantly understood that she was being rescued and that she’s safe.” – Howl of a Dog team
Usually, rescue dogs have trouble relaxing and learning to trust people again. Their difficult past has made them believe people are cruel, and it’s hard to let their guard down.
But Bella felt right at home!
Even after living such a troubled life to this point, she was trusting of the people who brought her to safety. She even cuddled up next to one of her rescuers, and fell asleep in her lap.
Slowly but surely she made herself more comfortable.
After all, it had been a tiring day and she wanted to show some love to the people who saved her.
“She was so trusting and relieved to be finally rescued that she simply fell asleep in my arms while we were heading to the veterinary clinic.” – Howl of a Dog
Just look at her face! That’s one happy dog.
Her trip to the vet was successful, and they were able to give her some medication to cure her spleen and liver. As well as a medicated bath to get rid of the fleas and itching.
She was slightly under-weight, so when she got back to the shelter it was time to chow down. They also introduced her to all the other rescue pups and she made fast friends!
“Bella is doing fine now, receiving all the care she needs to regain her health and joy. Once she’s completely recovered she will be up for adoption.” – Howl of a Dog
Bella has come so far and made a full recovery. She was quickly adopted into her forever home… all the way over in Germany!
Now she’s an international gal, and probably multi-lingual by now.
The team at Howl of a Dog are really incredible, and dedicated to saving dogs just like Bella.
How fortunate that they found her at that kennel when they did!
