A lot of dogs have it made when a new human sibling is welcomed into the family. Sure, there might be peculiar noises and smells that come with a baby – but it also means additional crumbs, stuffed animals, and a new best friend to love.
Charlie’s a beagle from Ireland who knows exactly what it’s like having a new baby in the home.
One day, his owners caught him “borrowing” a toy from his little sister, making her burst into tears. Fortunately, the pooch felt guilty about his actions and quickly “apologized” in the most adorable way. It’s a viral scene that’s melting the internet’s heart!
Meet “Charlie the Beagle” and his best buddy Laura Olivia.
Charlie’s an intelligent dog that’s been trained to help with tasks around the house – like shutting cabinets and fetching the television remote. After his human sister (Laura) was born – he learned how to assist in caring for her too.
The bond between the pair was so special that Charlie’s owners began sharing their journey together online. Videos of the beagle helping rock the baby, change her diaper, and other precious moments can be found on their popular social media accounts. He’s literally been by Laura’s side every step of the way while she’s grown up!
There’s one cute video, in particular, that spread like wildfire across the internet. It was filmed when Laura Olivia was just an infant.
As we know, both dogs AND babies love their toys. So it makes sense that a pooch might want to borrow one from his human friend, right? Especially since kid toys tend to have all the bells and whistles.
In the video, Laura is sitting in a bouncer while her dad shakes a rattle toy for her. Charlie spots it and gently grabs it for himself.
Whoopsie.
The beagle takes the colorful toy back to his bed to play with it. Only a moment later though – Laura begins to cry over what happened and the dad says, “Charlie!”
Uh-oh. Looks like Charlie’s gonna have to work to make it up to his little sis!
Best “apology” ever.
To make up for being a thief, Charlie goes running off and returns with one of his own toys – a lime-green tennis ball. But he’s only getting started…
After dropping off the ball to Laura, he goes and grabs a video game remote for her as well. What a sweetheart!
While you may think that would be enough, he’s not done yet.
Charlie pushes over the whole bucket of toys to make up for his actions. He gives her a stuffed animal, then piles another one on top. From what it seems, he’s really sorry! What a lucky kid to have such a loving buddy.
According to the AKC, beagles are known for being merry, loyal, and friendly.
There’s a final, heartwarming way Charlie shows remorse.
He goes up to baby Laura and appears to give her a few gentle kisses. Aww! Now that’s the perfect way for a dog to show how sorry he is (but toys are certainly icing on the cake).
