“This is what your dog does, when you move out and leave him behind.”
He looks up at you with those sad, big brown eyes, and then tears up when realizes what’s really happening.
“Where are you going, and why haven’t you packed a bag for me,” he wonders.
This sweet little boy named Cupid watched as his family packed up all their belongings into their car and drove away.
And just like that, he was all alone! He didn’t know why it was happening, or what he did to deserve it. All he knew was that this was the place that he called home, and he was going to stay on that porch until his family came back for him!
Sadly, that was never going to happen, as Cupid had been dealt one helluva crappy hand.
When concerned neighbors first rang up Janine Guido, founder of Speranza Animal Rescue, she was told there was a dog sleeping on the porch of a house in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
What she found there left her so angry and heartbroken, she felt compelled to out Cupid’s parents on her social media feed:
“When I got there your dog was eating out of a dumpster. And when I tried to approach your dog he took off to his safe place.”
Poor Cupid was so scared, he literally tried to claw his way back into the house.
“When I approached your doorstep , your dog frantically jumped up and scratched at the door – begging for you to let him in.”
When no one opened the door, the pup ran away, confused as to why his family wasn’t there to rescue him.
“Your dog then bolted once again, and ran down alleys. Away from me – the stranger trying to help him.”
When the pooch finally came back around, Janine gently spoke to him, which seemed to calm him down. She told Cupid that she was there to help get him off the streets, and he believed her!
“At that moment it was like your dog understood. He didn’t bolt. He walked up to me and sat down. Allowing me to leash him.”
“I cried as I put your dog into my car. And even though I probably sounded crazy I explained to your dog what was going on the whole ride home.”
Cupid’s new home at Speranza Animal Rescue was filled with people who would love and care for him. More importantly, they would never, ever abandon this precious pup!
She told The Dodo:
“He has been nothing but the sweetest gentleman since coming to the rescue. You can tell he’s still really confused. But he is happy to meet everyone with a wagging tail.”
He’s such a pretty boy!
Even with clipped ears, he’s absolutely gorgeous. After some good meals, his coat will be nice and full.
The fact that he’s now standing tall and proud says that he’s well on his way to healing his broken heart.
Cupid needs to get the all clear from the vet, but once he has a clean bill of health, the search for his forever home can start.
Janine thinks that Cupid, true to his name, will be able to make a lucky someone fall in love with him real fast.
“I don’t think that will be hard to find because he truly is the sweetest guy.”
An update on the animal rescue’s page says there have been over 50 applications to adopt this sweet little soul.
“He is always wagging his tail and has the kindest eyes. He is very loved here already.”
