In December 2018, a CCTV video of an owner abandoning his Staffordshire Terrier went viral.
The heartbreaking video shows a man dumping the dog on the side of the road in England.
The owner let go of the dog’s leash and ran back to his car. The poor dog didn’t understand what was happening, and he ran after his owner and tried to get into the car too. He put his paws on the window and looked in at his owner. The dog was clearly confused and scared.
A few hours later, a passerby found the dog sleeping by the road. The passerby called the RSPCA, and they came to pick the dog up. They named him Snoop.
The RSPCA released the video of Snoop, hoping that someone would have information about the man who abandoned Snoop. The video quickly racked up thousands of views—the video brought a tear to everyone’s eye.
The RSPCA started looking for the right home for Snoop. Since the pup’s video had gone viral, they received thousands of applications.
At one point, it even looked like Snoop Dogg might adopt Snoop! The rapper was touched by the dog’s story, and he said there was always room in his home for a dog in need.
“It is heartbreaking,” Snoop Dogg told The Daily Star. “If he really needed a home then he has one with us… There is always room for another dog in Casa de Snoop.”
While the RSPCA staff were eager to get Snoop into a forever home, they did have some behavioral problems they had to work on first. Snoop had severe separation anxiety, which wasn’t surprising after what he went through. The RSPCA staff helped the dog learn how to trust people again.
“He loves to play so we are teaching him to play nicely as he gets very overexcited,” RSPCA spokeswoman Rachel Butler told the BBC. “We know how much Snoop touched people’s hearts over Christmas so we wanted to let everyone know how he is doing. It is a long road ahead for Snoop and we know that people won’t be forgetting him in a hurry.”
Finally, in March 2019, the RSPCA decided that Snoop was ready to go to his forever home. They looked through all the applications and chose a local man named Laurence Squire.
Squire was watching the news one night when a story about Snoop came on. Squire immediately felt a connection to the dog, and he put in an application. The shelter staff decided he would be a good fit since he worked from home, so he would be able to spend most of his time with the still-anxious Snoop.
Squire brought Snoop home, and the dog immediately settled into his new house.
“As soon as he came into the house for the first time, he jumped on the sofa and it was as though he decided that was the space for him! He loves to lie on the back of the sofa and if I put the fire on, he will curl up in front of it,” Squire told The Dodo.
Squire treats Snoop like a king—the pup spends his days napping, playing outside, and cuddling with his new dad. Snoop is so happy, and he can’t stop smiling!
