She came out of nowhere.
But Moxie couldn’t have been luckier to pop out when she did.
That’s because some very kind souls, who were willing to make sure that she was loved and cared for, just happened to be there when she did.
Martina was driving through the hillside in Spain when she spotted Moxie.
“We were in the middle of nowhere. It was just really odd because there was nothing for miles and miles and then suddenly this dog appears chasing our car,” Martina told The Dodo.
Martina and her partner decided to stop and pick up Moxie.
They took her to the closest village to see if they could find her owner.
But no one there knew Moxie. They later stopped by a vet’s office to see if she had a microchip but she didn’t.
So, the only thing left to do was to take Moxie with them.
“We actually never had a dog before. We didn’t really know what to do,” Martina explained. “Her fur was completely overgrown. We were a little worried because we have cats.”
But Moxie was basically the same size as the cats so she fit in with them just fine.
Or at least she thought so.
“She was immediately in love with them. They weren’t too in love with her,” Martina explained.

But they all had the same thing in common. Martina and her partner picked them all up as strays during their travels in their van.
Her cats Pixie and Dobby were picked up off of the streets of Greece while Simba was picked up in Italy.
Once Moxie started accompanying Martina and her cats on hikes, the cats started welcoming Moxie as one of their own.
A few weeks went by and Moxie’s original owners never surfaced, so she officially became one of the family.
“We decided we’ve got three animals already, we might as well keep a fourth one,” Martina said. “It’s a good group. They’re best friends. She absolutely loves chasing them around.”
Since Moxie has all that puppy energy, she fits in perfectly with Martina’s lifestyle. They love to go on adventures and be outdoors and so does Moxie.
Moxie goes crazy when it’s time to go for a hike.
She’s so engrained in the family now that she actually thinks that she is a cat.
“I don’t know if it’s because she’s around cats all the time but she often behaves like a cat. She actually gets more excited when she sees cats than when she sees dogs now.”

Moxie even goes back and forth through the cat door in their van. She also runs full speed into the litter box thinking it’s her own personal playground.
Though she isn’t given cat food, it’s her favorite.
“She definitely thinks that she’s part of the cat crew,” Martina explains. “We often think about what would have happened if we hadn’t stopped and picked her up. It’s amazing to know that we’ve saved her life and given her a second chance.”
