Everyone who has ever owned a pet knows that they all have their own unique quirks and abilities – both good and bad. But one brave dog from Canada has never let his appearance hold him back. He found his purpose in life when he was given a second chance.

Get ready to meet Brodie, a pup whose lopsided grin has won the hearts of people all around the world!

But Brodie wasn’t always an internet sensation. The German shepherd and border collie mix’s amazing journey really began when he was just a puppy, waiting in a shelter for his forever family to come along.

He had already been returned to the shelter once. Would his next family be a better fit?

Brodie was just thirteen days old when he was attacked by his birth mom. The injuries he sustained left his face looking like a ‘Picasso masterpiece’.

Vets gave him around-the-clock care, doing everything they could to make sure he could live a relatively normal life. But this was just the beginning of his journey.

After weeks of rest and healing, the brave little pup was taken to Old MacDonald Kennels in Alberta, Canada.

There, he sat and patiently waited for his new family to find him.

Everyone working at the shelter immediately developed a soft spot for the little pup, but there was one problem.

At first, the volunteers at the shelter were worried that Brodie may have a hard time finding a home.

Luckily, this wasn’t the case at all! In fact, his unique face only endeared him to prospective families more!

Within no time at all, Brodie had been adopted – but sadly, it wasn’t meant to be.

Unfortunately, Brodie was returned to the shelter after just five months in his new home. His owners felt that he was too ‘hyperactive’.

That’s when the shelter decided to share his pictures online. Luckily, Amanda Richter and her boyfriend Brad Ames saw them.

“I looked at his photos every day and even cried a few times. We felt drawn to him for some reason,” Amanda told Metro UK. “We met him, took him for a walk and hung out with him for a few hours and ended up bringing him home the same day because the rescue really felt we were a great fit.”

According to his family, Brodie is as energetic as ever. This is not a problem for Amanda and Brad, who love his positive energy and happy-go-lucky personality!

Brodie’s upbeat personality seemed to rub off on everyone he met. But he had another surprise for his new family…

“He’s definitely hyper but he is so intelligent. His brain is perfectly fine and he learns tricks within 10 minutes usually which tells me he is a smart boy. ‘He just needed patience and someone to be consistent. He gets better every week.”

It wasn’t long before Amanda and Brad realized Brodie’s potential. They began training him to become a therapy dog!

With Brodie’s help, they hope to make a difference in the lives of many people with disabilities.

“We hope to train him to be a therapy dog one day so he can help other people with disabilities. We also hope that we can raise awareness for other special needs dogs and show people that just because someone or something looks different, they can be perfectly imperfect in their own unique way.”
