Imagine the surprise of nurse Elizabeth Potter from Red Wing, Minnesota, when she discovered a mysterious hole in the backyard fence her husband had painstakingly built.
Little did she know, this was the beginning of a charming tale involving their Saint Bernard, Everest, and the neighbors’ Mastiff, Bear.
Everest and Bear, despite being separated by a fence, had formed an inseparable bond.
One a male and the other a female, these two gentle giants found the barrier between their yards unbearable.
They longed to spend time together, and a mere fence wasn’t going to stop them.
The dogs’ determination knew no bounds. They barked and caused a ruckus, all in an effort to reunite.
Their large heads turned out to be quite the asset, as they eventually managed to create a hole in the fence.
This new window allowed them to see each other and, in their own way, “chat.”
Initially, the owners were oblivious to the dogs’ handiwork.
They noticed their pets staring intently at the fence but didn’t realize the reason. It wasn’t until Bear poked his head through the hole that the truth came to light.
“It wasn’t until bear poked his head out that I realised that they ruined the fence my husband had built by himself,” Potter shared with Metro. “I honestly thought it was hilarious. Dogs will be dogs.”
She also mentioned that this wasn’t Everest’s first time causing expensive mischief.
Potter’s husband, however, didn’t share her amusement.
He had put significant effort into building the fence, only to see it compromised in moments.
But the sight of the dogs trying to get close to each other through the hole they had created was undeniably funny.
A video captured the heartwarming scene: Everest sticking its head through the hole, seemingly inviting Bear over. When Everest retreated, Bear’s head appeared in the gap.
The dogs’ attempts to get closer were endearing, with Bear even trying to squeeze a leg through.
Everest, ever the friend, licked Bear’s head in a show of encouragement and support.
The story doesn’t end with the fence’s destruction.
Eventually, the two dogs were seen playing joyously together in the same yard. But their owners knew they couldn’t let the fence be destroyed again.
They came up with a clever solution.
“My husband and the neighbours decided to put up a swinging metal gate so that they can let Bear into our yard whenever and we can use their hot tub whenever,” Potter explained.
This arrangement seemed perfect for everyone involved. The dogs could have their playdates, and the humans could enjoy the hot tub.
Talk about a win-win situation!
The tale of Everest and Bear, with their heads peeking through the fence and their joyful play, is a heartwarming reminder of the power of friendship.
