Yakoo and Nuka are two sweet pups who have faced so many challenges together.

Yakoo, a brave blind dog, and his sister Nuka, who couldn’t hear, shared an unbreakable bond that went beyond their disabilities.

Their journey began when Eric, their caring owner, discovered Nuka through a unique program in Georgia that paired puppies with inmates for training.

Unfortunately, Nuka’s mother had passed away in a car accident, leaving her and her siblings without a home.

Despite being the last puppy left due to her deafness, Eric, who was already the proud owner of Yakoo, decided to make the long journey from Florida to Georgia to adopt her.

At first, Nuka was a bit nervous, but she quickly warmed up to Eric and showed him affection with a shower of kisses.

From the moment she arrived, Nuka seamlessly fit into Eric’s life and heart.

What was truly remarkable was her protective nature towards Yakoo, as if she somehow knew about his blindness.

Whenever both dogs wandered away from Eric, he couldn’t call out to Yakoo, but Nuka, understanding Eric’s signals, would fetch Yakoo and bring him back. This unique communication system became an integral part of their special bond.

To ensure the safety of his beloved companions, Eric never let them roam freely in unfamiliar environments without their leashes.

When he adopted Nuka, he started teaching her sign language for basic commands like ‘sit’ and ‘stay’.

Eric also made sure she understood tactile commands, preparing for the possibility that she might lose her sight in the future due to her double merle gene.

Yakoo, on the other hand, learned through a remarkable two-way communication method involving sign language, tactile cues, and Montessori techniques.

Since Eric wasn’t fluent in sign language, he ingeniously created his own signs.

One of the signs he taught Nuka was to ‘go get your brother,’ a command she grasped and followed diligently.

The connection between Yakoo and Nuka was truly heartwarming, exemplifying the beauty of sibling love. Nuka, aptly named ‘little sister’, had quite a mischievous side to her personality.

She loved toys and would sometimes slyly steal them from Yakoo while he slept.

Whenever Eric gave a treat to Yakoo, mischievous Nuka would try her best to snatch it, adding a playful dynamic to their relationship.

The journey with both dogs transformed Eric’s perspective on the world.

They taught him that communication wasn’t limited to words alone but encompassed body language and a deep understanding.

To Eric, dogs cared more about your actions and the vibes you exuded, showing a genuine understanding of who you are as a person.

Through Yakoo and Nuka, Eric experienced a profound personal transformation.

He learned to empathize with their needs and communicate with them on a level that surpassed mere words.

For him, it wasn’t just about raising dogs, but about establishing a meaningful and caring connection with them.
