Those who grew up with animals know that their life and their personality wouldn’t be the same if they hadn’t had a furry partner in their games when they were kids.

Growing up with a pet is beneficial for children, who learn how to take on responsibility, take care of someone else, and socialize from a very early age, whether they have a sibling or not.

Some of the games a child can play with a four-legged friend are catch and tag, while they can also spend quality time together learning new things.

One of the things that a puppy might need to learn is how to howl. While some dog breeds are more inclined to howling, like beagles or huskies, there are others, like chihuahuas, which don’t have a natural predisposition to it.

But, why do dogs howl?

Well, just like little babies who cry when they want to communicate because they have no other means to do it, similarly, dogs can howl for various reasons.

They could be scared or in distress, they could be sensing danger and howl to scare the threat away or to warn their companions, they could be hurt and in pain, they could be trying to communicate with other dogs, or they could be just doing it to draw your attention.

Whatever the reason, however, it is quite useful to teach your dog how to bark, since it can discourage potential invaders and burglars.

So, how can you teach a puppy to howl?

There are a few tricks you can employ in order to encourage a pooch to howl. For instance, you can howl yourself or sing- it seems dogs try to imitate high-pitch sounds. Alternatively, you can play videos of dogs howling or sirens, and if that doesn’t work either, you can whistle or play a musical instrument.

The boy in the video below decided to teach his dog how to howl by giving him an example.

As you can see, his dad knows that something is going on, but he’s not sure what exactly that is. So, he grabs his phone and starts recording as he approaches the bedroom.

“I don’t know what’s happening,” he says as he walks down the corridor, “but something’s happening.”

There, the boy’s dad comes across the cutest view. His son is in bed along with their puppy, and he’s trying to teach it how to howl by making howling sounds himself.

“Ahoo” goes the little boy. The puppy lying next to him follows his example and howls back. The boy then pats the dog’s head, encouraging it to continue. When the dog howls again, the boy can’t stop laughing.

Twitter users loved the video and their comments say it all.

“If this ain’t me recording such a video in the future I’ll feel cheated,” someone wrote, while another user commented: “OHHH, that’s SOOO ADORABLE!”

The duo is really too cute to handle! We bet this dad joined them in the howling session when he turned off the camera!
