We put surveillance cameras in our homes to ensure our safety and security.

It is a helpful piece of technology to detect burglars. These cameras can even capture what’s going on if there is any untoward incident. The footage it captured can be used as court evidence if deemed necessary.

One of the most useful cameras you’ll ever install is a doorbell camera.

It can detect motion from outside, and you can see who is at your front door before opening it. Modern technology now allows you to receive alerts or notifications if someone is by the door.

It was a surprise for Jeremy and Sarah Henson to receive a notification.

The family was on a week-long vacation in Las Vegas and was a thousand miles away from their Kansas home. That’s why it came to them as a surprise that they were alerted that someone was by their front door.

Jeremy checked his app and couldn’t believe what he saw: it was their dog, Dexter.

Dexter was supposed to be at a doggy daycare for five days while the entire family was away. But this doggo probably felt homesick already and wanted to go home.

This intelligent dog escaped from dog daycare and surprisingly found his way home.

Dexter jumped over a six-foot fence to escape and made it out of the kennel. He walked on 7th Street, which was often a busy road. Then, he turned left, then turned right up Rose Hill and into the residential neighborhood.

After 90 minutes, Dexter made it home.

He started scratching the door as if attempting to open it, and he rang the doorbell. This alerted Jeremy, and when he saw it was Dexter, he knew he had to calm his beloved fur baby down.

Jeremy used the camera’s one-way talk feature and started talking to Dexter.

He calmed the adorable pooch down, assuring him that he would be fine. At the same time, they called the dog daycare to take him back so he would be safe. In a few minutes, the service van arrived, and they took Dexter back.

It seemed like this dog was used to watching over his paw-rents.

“He was bound and determined. Obviously, he didn’t understand the fact that we were gone. He just thought we were home, and he takes his job protecting us very seriously,” Jeremy told Inside Edition.

His actions didn’t come as a surprise to his owners, though.

Jeremy said that Dexter was a brilliant dog that would get him into trouble sometimes. But the fact alone that he made it home without getting lost proved how smart he was.

Jeremy also saw how important their doorbell camera was at that time.

“I truly believe that the (doorbell camera) saved my dog’s life. Without it, he may have been stuck outside and wouldn’t have been able to find a warm spot to stay safe,” Jeremy said in an interview with People.

We’re glad that technology was there to the rescue. And an excellent job to Dexter, too!
