Anyone who owns a dog knows just how close they become to us over time. Dogs are our confidantes and best friends, always loyal and always loving. They can play fetch with us, offer us emotional support and cuddle with us at night. Still, the process of training or taking care of a dog can be a difficult one. Aside from the house training, dogs are very active and need to spend plenty of time outside. The trickier part is taking care of the little aspects of your animal’s health.
Clipping your dog’s nails can be particularly tricky.
The Peifer family lives in Minnesota with their adorable dog, Oliver.
Oliver is a rescue dog and generally a pretty easy-going guy—unless, of course, you’re trying to cut his nails. Like many dogs, Oliver doesn’t like anyone messing with his legs and paws. And let’s be honest, the process of cutting nails is confusing for even the most patient, best-behaved pups. Still, the family knew they had to find a way to make the process easier for everyone involved.
Fortunately, Patrick Peifer, the dad of the family, had a creative idea.
He decided to get a purse and cut holes in the bottom of it to render little Oliver safe and immobile during the process!
Patrick’s daughter, Kendal Peifer, posted the contraption on Twitter—where it quickly went massively viral:

Above all though, the whole internet seems taken with Patrick’s creative solution to the nail clipping problem. According to Kendal, she had no idea that the moment would spread around the world so quickly. As she told Buzzfeed News:
“A lot of people are saying how genius the idea was. Other people are asking for my dad’s phone number and saying how good looking he is . . . I didn’t think it would get so popular. It worked surprisingly well!”
For all you dog owners out there, let this story serve as proof that there is a better way.
Next time you have to clip your dog’s nails (assuming you have a little dog), don’t bother trying to wrestle with him. Instead, give the Peifer’s nail clipping trick a try. To the Peifer family: thanks for the inspiration!
