Jarret Little was out with his friends on a mountain biking trip heading near the woods in Columbus, Georgia when a dog came limping out of the woods as they stopped to rest.

The poor dog looked like it had been hit by a car “We stopped to regroup and he came out of the woods to greet us. He was really thin, ribs showing and had a lot of road rash and a broken leg,” Little told CBS News.

The poor pooch needed help.

Little and his cycling buddies gave the injured dog some food and water. The group knew the dog needed help, but they could not find a way of transporting the dog. So Little decided he would carry the dog on his back and pedal into town for help.

So he carefully put the dog’s broken leg into the back pocket of his shirt. It was an image that has gone viral.

The group soon arrived in town where a woman quickly took interest in the injured dog.

Her name is Andrea Shaw. She was in town on business and the sweet dog caught her attention. “I’m saving this dog – he’s bleeding and broken and I’m not leaving him,” Shaw told her husband over the phone when she met the dog.

Andrea took the dog to a vet. “She decided to keep him and get him checked out medically,” Little said.

Shaw paid for the surgery including repair of the dog’s broken leg and broken toe. She was immediately smitten and her connection with the injured dog had her taking him home to live with her.

The dog was named Columbo, named after the city he was found in.

Shaw arranged transportation for Columbo, sending him to her horse farm in Maine.

Shaw and Little crossed paths at just the right time. Almost like fate intervened for the injured dog. “Had I been five mins earlier or five mins later, we wouldn’t have crossed paths with her,” says Little about encounter.

Columbo, also called “Bo”, soon arrived in Maine. “Bo traveled with 25 staples in his hind leg after having four pins to put in to stabilize the fractures and a full cast on a front leg to stabilize a broken toe,” Shaw posted.

Shaw was beyond impressed with the way Grateful Doggies took Bo to her home. “They gave him all his meds and kept him comfy until he was back in my arms.”

Shaw made a page called The Adventures of Columbo, so followers could stay updated on Bo’s progress.

Bo loves his new home. He met his new siblings, and he loves them all especially BIG brother Luquillo. He recovered slowly but surely with physical therapy helping him walk again.

Columbo has his own “convertible” dog crate which allows him to rest while his other siblings play. He also got to chew on delicious snacks while he recovered.

Check out Bo’s Facebook page for all his pictures and videos. He is adorable!

Bo is a brave dog who was blessed to start a new life!
