Since the dawn of time, dogs and mailmen have been mortal enemies; their feud has spanned centuries.
One brave dog, however, is going against tradition and happily greets his mailman every day.

Moose, a 4-year-old golden retriever, waits for his mailman friend to come and greets him with hugs and kisses.
Moose lives with his mom, dad, and baby brother, the Gruszynski’s, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The family had recently had a new mailman assigned to their route, and they quickly realized how lovely of a man he was when Moose would beg to be let out to see him.
Their first interaction was surely a little nerve-wracking for the man to have a big dog come sprinting toward him.
It only took a few seconds, though, to see that this was a very friendly dog who didn’t want any trouble, just a little extra-loving.
Meghan Gruszynski remembers seeing the mailman pass by for the first time, and Moose begging to be let out of the house to check him out.

Moose was only a year and a half on their first meeting, and he still had the energy and attitude of a puppy.
Now, over three years later, Moose waits patiently on the driveway for his friend to pull up.
His tail begins to wag even before the man has fully put his truck in park, and the wagging just gets more intense as the door opens and he exits the vehicle.
Moose is well trained, though, and simply sits and waits for the man to approach.
As soon as he’s close enough, though, Moose jumps up and lunges at the man for a hug, and the man complies.
It is easy to see his affection for the dog; he gives him lots of hugs and kisses and even has a few treats hidden away in his jacket.
Meghan spoke to the man one day, to ensure he was comfortable with the dog, and found out that he had actually just recently lost his own pup.
He took his interactions with Moose as a kind of healing from the trauma and emotions of his own dog’s passing.
As the mailman oath says, “Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

And in snow, rain, heat, and the gloom of night, Moose is always waiting to greet his friend.
“Hopefully, it continues for many, many years!” Meghan said, “He’s our mailman until he retires, so it should be fun watching their love.”
Both man and beast seem pleased with breaking the stereotypes that surround their interaction.
Moose is a sweet and loving dog, and will surely continue to greet his mailman friend for as long as he can.
