The guy behind the camera says, “There are the monsters.”
Proud Momma
Their momma is completely alright with these little ones following this human, she actually dawdles right along behind as well. Is it possible that these ducklings have used their instincts for “imprinting” on a human?
Mental Floss explains the concept…
“The basic thought behind imprinting is as follows: a newly hatched duckling will adopt characteristics of the first animal they see. This is usually a mother duck, but could be anything from a dog to a human.”
Raising Ducks
According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, raising ducks is an alternative or addition to raising chickens for their delicious eggs. A great reason to consider keeping a backyard flock of ducks is that their fresh eggs are tastier than storebought and they also have more nutrients. Duck eggs are about 30% larger than chicken eggs, and they are more reliable for laying their eggs year-round than chicken.
Duck Egg Delights
The Old Farmer’s Almanac says, “Highly prized by some pastry chefs since their higher fat content makes baked goods rise higher, duck eggs do contain more cholesterol and calories than chicken eggs, but also taste a bit richer and more “eggy” and contain more vitamins than chicken eggs, as well as more protein, Omega-3 and iron.”
Most Likely Hangry
—Mother Duck : “I know we’re not together anymore, but the kids wanted to see their father.”—“One possible explanation- The guy was dressed as a duck!”
If you know someone who’d love to see these hatchlings scurry about the yard then pass this along. These little ducklings are adorable, even if they might be hangry.
