Friendship
Adorable crow waits for his best friend to get home from school so they can “play”
I don't think I've ever seen a bird bond with someone like this. It's like they've got their own language.

Before she had a child, Denmark native Laerke thought crows couldnā€™t express affection.

But all of those changed when she had her child.

This heartwarming story is proof that friendship knows no bounds and sometimes, it can come from the unlikeliest of places ā€“ or in this case, animals.

In Laerkeā€™s residence, a black and white corvid perches by the rooftop’s edge.

Unlike other wild birds, itā€™s not hanging around the place by chance.

A bus rolls down the road and stops at in front of the house. The birdā€™s eyes fixes itself on the bus and then to a very specific passenger.

Otto, Laerkeā€™s son, jumps out from the bus doors. The raven takes the cue and flies off and toward his best friend.

It might look weird for some, but for Laerke, this is an everyday thing.

She loves seeing how her son befriends an interesting crow which they named Russell. This is just a glimpse of the duoā€™s everyday life.

On some days, Russell would wait patiently for the little boy to come out and play.

Whenever he does, Russell flies and perches on nearby spots or hops beside Otto.

Otto goes biking and Russell joins the fun. Whenever Otto is inside, the crow stands right outside the glass door.

The two have always been inseparable but Laerke also added that she never leaves the two of them unsupervised.

It all started when Russell approached Laerkeā€™s boyfriend.

At that time, the crow was thin and hungry. At first, they thought the bird was just out there to catch its breath. But at the end of the day, Russell stayed.

They called animal control and a wildlife rehabilitation office but “unfortunately”, no one was available to take the bird in.

The couple decided to take the bird inside and nurse it back to health.

They werenā€™t expecting anything in return but Russell had other plans.

After recovering, Russell decided to stay in the neighborhood. Even if the couple rescued him, he took a particular interest in Otto.

Laerke said that Russell would allow only Otto to pet him. Whenever she does, the bird just hops away to avoid her touch. Talk about favoritism!

ā€œHe would go and sit on the couch watching TV with Otto.ā€ She shared with The Dodo, ā€œI just think he likes to hang around Otto.ā€

Other people believe so too!

ā€œWhat’s most impressive is how quickly Otto learned to be careful and gentle with the bird.ā€ Said one commenter, ā€œThat’s how you raise a boy to be kind.ā€

ā€œIā€™ve never imagined a baby boy could be a best friend with a crow, but now I see it. This friendship just so amazing and heartfelt.ā€ Said another.

Indeed, Otto and Russell seem to be like two peas in a pod, aside from the feathers.

ā€œCorvids, like crows, and, ravens, are about as smart as a 7-year-old human, and, will always remember when you show them kindness.ā€ Explained another, ā€œThey will always try to repay that kindness.ā€
