Fiona is 2-years-old and lives with her mom Sarah in San Francisco. Nearly every day, the duo heads out for a walk and playtime at Golden Gate Park. At first, Fiona would simply run around in the park, enjoying the fresh air, and getting some exercise.

It wasn’t long, however, before Fiona started to notice all these strange holes in the ground. What the heck were they?

The beautiful and curious dog started to investigate, and she soon found out which little critter was creating these holes and mounds of dirt all around the park — gophers! Fiona started to realize that if she waited long enough near one of these holes…a gopher would eventually pop out to say hello.

“She does it quite often,” Sarah told The Dodo. “She thinks everyone wants to say hi to her.”

But as it turns out, she’s not wrong — everyone DOES want to say hi to her! Even the gophers! Fiona and the small animals started to create an adorable relationship together.

“Their interactions are so gentle and sweet,” Sarah continued.

Unlike many dogs, who would probably bark and try to chase the gophers, Fiona has a much more gentle demeanor. The gophers can clearly sense that the 2-year-old pup isn’t going to hurt them, and one day, one of the critters wanted to show Fiona a little love!

In the video, you can see Fiona doing her daily patient wait outside one of the gopher holes. Soon, a tiny little head pops out to visit the fluffy white girl. At first, it just seems to be a stare-off…but then…

Once the gopher makes an appearance, Fiona decides to go in for a little kiss! The two adorable animals perform a sweet ‘snoot boop’ before the small animal retreats back to its home.

Sarah spoke to Bored Panda and explains that gophers aren’t Fiona’s only interest.

“Fiona’s favorite activities are searching for squirrels and I yell out “squirrelly” and we run from tree to tree together to try and find them. They have never let her get close though. She cries at the bottom of the tree,” she explained.

Fiona’s mom knows though that the gophers are her absolute favorite friends to play with. In fact, Sarah will even help guide her to what she thinks might be an ‘occupied’ gopher hole.

“We also walk gopher hole to hole and I point out if I think there might be a friend in there, she sniffs it out and decides whether or not to move on or stay. She could be 10 feet away but she understands I’m trying to help her and if I say ‘Fiona, what about this one’ she will walk over and check it out”

The sweet interaction between Fiona and her gopher friend immediately went viral and people from all over the world have fallen in love.
