Thank goodness they found him in time!

When a young couple named Wade and Mandi Shapp saw a strange sight on the side of the road on their way home from church, they immediately stopped to inspect it.

What they discovered was a small dog stuck in a dog food bag.

The bag was sealed shut, and there was only a hole for him to poke his head through.

Wade said:

“I noticed that he (the dog) wasn’t moving, and he was in a bag. And I thought, ‘Well, that doesn’t make sense.’”

They quickly used their car keys to cut open the bag and remove the dog.

The dog was scared and cold, so they wrapped him in a blanket and took him home to care for him.

Wade continued:

“You could tell that it was done intentionally. There was rope tied around the bottom, so he didn’t have much room to move.”

The dog had been in the bag for a while. He smelled bad and was covered in urine, dirt, and feces.

They bathed the dog, and he seemed to start to trust them.

Wade said:

“I felt like that was a big trust thing. I think he knows that we saved him.”

All things considered, the dog seemed to be OK, but they decided to take him to the vet just to be safe. The vet found that the dog had a gunshot wound on the inside of one of his legs.

Wade and Mandi hadn’t noticed it.

They believe his previous owners must have shot him, and when it didn’t kill him, they decided to put him in a bag and toss him on the side of the road. He was left for dead. The Shapps aren’t able to keep the dog, who they named Bubba. They do plan on keeping him until he is healthy and can be adopted by a new family, however.

He is safe, warm, and loved at their home.

He also gets to play with their other two dogs, Isabelle and Dixie. The dogs get along well, and they really seem to like each other. Bubba doesn’t ever have to worry about being mistreated by people because he will have Mandi and Wade to protect him until the right owners can be found.

Hopefully, Bubba gets adopted soon and his new family loves him just as much as the Shapps. He definitely deserves a warm, safe home. The people who shot Bubba deserve to be punished.

It’s a lot easier to turn a dog over to a pound or a rescue than attempt to kill it.

When will things start looking up for animals? Hopefully, pretty soon. New agencies and laws are being created to protect animals from acts like this.

According to the Humane Society of the United States:

“The FBI added cruelty to animals as a category in the Uniform Crime Report, a nationwide crime reporting system commonly used in homicide investigations. While only about a third of U.S. communities currently participate in the system, the data generated will help create a clearer picture of animal abuse and guide strategies for intervention and enforcement. Data collection covers four categories: simple/gross neglect, intentional abuse and torture, organized abuse (such as dogfighting and cockfighting) and animal sexual abuse.”

Hopefully, that means there will be fewer cases like this and stricter punishments for people who do attempt to hurt or neglect animals. Luckily, there are plenty of animal lovers in the world who are always there to help the animals in need.
