Couple Moves Up Wedding Date So Dying Dog Can Attend
"Having Brucie there with me on the day was the most important thing, hence why we changed it. I think some people think we are nuts for changing it, as some people see him as just a dog, but to me he's a lot, lot more.”

Estelle and Daniel Harris always knew their Bull Mastiff Brucie would have a big role in their wedding ceremony.

The couple loves their pup more than anything in the world, and Estelle often calls him her ‘kid with four legs.’

Estelle adopted Brucie five years ago when he was eight weeks old. Estelle and Brucie immediately bonded.

When Brucie was a year old, Estelle met Daniel. She took Daniel home to meet Brucie, and thankfully, Brucie loved Daniel!

A few years into their relationship, Daniel proposed to Estelle and she happily said yes. The pair decided they wanted to get married in May 2019, and they began planning their dream wedding.

In December 2018, Estelle noticed that Brucie’s gums were white and his tongue was blue. She rushed him to the vet, where she learned he had pleural effusion. This meant that there was fluid around his heart and lungs, and it had to be drained if he was going to survive.

When the vets were draining fluid, they found a cancerous lump in his chest. The vets told Estelle and Daniel that they had to perform emergency surgery on Brucie, and they should say their goodbyes to him because there was a chance he wouldn’t survive.

Brucie made it through the seven-hour surgery, but he was later diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma. This type of cancer is extremely aggressive, and unfortunately, there is no cure. The vets told Estelle and Daniel that Brucie would most likely live for just another one to four months.

Estelle and Daniel were devastated by this news. Estelle couldn’t imagine getting married without her beloved dog by her side.

The couple talked it over, and they decided to move their wedding date up four months so Brucie could be there. Having Brucie there was more important to them than having a big ceremony.

“Having Brucie there with me on the day was the most important thing, hence why we changed it. I think some people think we are nuts for changing it, as some people see him as just a dog, but to me he’s a lot, lot more,” Estelle told Ladbible.

Estelle and Daniel got married in January 2019 at their local registry office in Derbyshire, England.

Many guests weren’t able to attend on the new date, but that didn’t matter to Estelle. Brucie being there was the most important thing to her. Estelle was also happy to see Brucie enjoying himself.

“I think Brucie really enjoyed it the day. He came to the evening party for an hour but got too tired, so had to go home to sleep his busy day of fuss off,” Estelle said. “We tried our best to get Danny and Brucie matching for the day, although most people said Bruce was the most handsome.”

Bruce was diagnosed with cancer about two months ago, and he’s still doing well. He loves cuddling with his parents, and he always enjoys going on adventures with them.

Estelle’s sister-in-law set up a GoFundMe page for Brucie to help pay for vitamins, treatments, and oils that can help prolong his life. These treatments will help give Brucie more time with his beloved humans.
