You often hear about cops and dogs teaming up to fight crime, but it’s rare to hear a story about a kitten and a cop… Well, until now that is.
Twenty-eight-year-old Cody Garrett, a police officer in South Carolina went completely viral after saving and teaming up with a tiny kitten named Squirt.
Garrett, who goes by DonutOperator on Instagram, told BuzzFeed News he was working the late shift when he came across a stray, orange kitten. He knew he couldn’t just leave the baby by herself, so he brought it back to the station with him. Garrett and his colleagues weren’t sure what to do with the little cat, so Garrett decided he would take the kitten in himself. Garrett had a cat named Toothless who was nursing a litter of kittens, and he hoped she might take Squirt in, as well.
“I don’t know why they didn’t want it, but I offered to take it,” he explained.
Garrett put Squirt into a box until it was time to bring her home. On it, he hilariously jokes to his colleagues, “Garrett’s. Don’t shake or eat.”
When Squirt finally made it to her new home, Garrett placed her down on the floor, where she immediately let out a stream of yellow poop— earning her the name “Squirt”.
She was a bit smaller than Toothless’ other kittens, who were about 4 weeks old at the time, but Toothless immediately took Squirt under her wing (err, paw).
According to BuzzFeed News, Squirt isn’t the first animal Garrett’s rescued while on the job. He rescued Toothless from the streets when she was just a kitten and saved a blind daschund wandering in the rain the same night he saved Squirt too!
Here’s a group of abused puppies he also rescued while on patrol.
Since rescuing baby Squirt, Garrett now has a happy group of rambunctious little kittens!
Not to mention, an adorable new partner to help him fight crime.
