With so many negative stories in the press, police officers can sometimes get a bad rap. The truth is, however, that there are thousands of kindhearted police officers out there. This is the story of one kindhearted cop who became the father to Kelsey, a tiny motherless kitten, just in time for her very first Father’s Day.

This past June, a tiny kitten was found wandering the streets of Lakeland, Florida. She was discovered by Officer Cardin of the Lakeland Police Department (LPD) who spotted her at the bottom of a lamppost. Cardin was on the night shift and wasn’t sure what to do with the kitten, so he decided to bring her back to the station.

On their Facebook page, the Lakeland Police Department explained,” “It was early in the shift so he [Cardin] brought her in, outfitted a records box and put her safely inside the kennel at the station.”

When the kitten got the station, she immediately cozied up and made herself at home. While she was hanging out in her box, however, she caught the eye of another officer, a man named Sergeant Wallace. The gruff man immediately took a liking to her.

“He [Wallace] didn’t want her to be alone all night, so he scooped her up and kept her with him throughout the shift,” the department writes.

The kitten, who was pleased with the Sergeant’s attention, snuggled her way right into his justice-loving heart. Throughout the night, she didn’t move an inch. She simply sat on Wallace’s lap, staring at the kindhearted human, and handing out endless love and purrs. Wallace, on his end, was equally as smitten with the tiny feline. By the end of the night, he had even named her Kelsey.

“She [Kelsey] seemed to take to her new role as partner to Sgt. Wallace,” Lakeland Police Department wrote. “However, she did fall asleep her first night on the job.”

Although Kelsey was found wandering the streets, orphaned and alone, she managed to find a brand-new Dad just in time for Father’s Day!

“She now has a new home with her partner Sgt. Wallace,” the department said. “Congratulations to little feline officer Kelsey on her new loving home!”

Congratulations, indeed!
