Do you love your pet more than anything? If that’s the way you feel, then you’re certainly not alone. Many people would do anything for their animals. But what happens when your furry friend needs help and you can’t do anything to take care of them? That’s a stressful situation.

If something bad happens to your animal and you can’t help, you’d hope somebody else would be able to take on the task for you. Luckily, some people will do whatever they can do lend a hand to someone else in need. That’s even true when it’s an animal that requires aid.

Just like Jett the German Shepherd

Jett was spending a normal day doing what dogs do best. He was playing fetch in his Crimora, Virginia backyard. But then, something went horribly wrong.

Jett started to choke

The German Shepherd was a little too enthusiastic about his game of fetch. When he picked up the ball, it became lodged in his throat. He started gasping for air.

He needed help…fast

This was an emergency for Jett. If he didn’t get help soon, there was a good chance he’d die. After all, de couldn’t breathe properly.

The ball was stuck

Jett’s owner, Teresa Perkins, tried her best to remove the ball from Jett’s throat. But she was unsuccessful. Her family tried as well, but they too didn’t have any luck.

Taking Jett to the hospital

Unable to help Jett themselves, the family knew the dog had to go to the hospital immediately. But then something unexpected threw their plans off course. It’d make the situation even more horrific.

The traffic was terrible

This is when Teresa’s concern for her dog intensified. She said, “My dog was pretty much dead. He was laying in the car, not moving. I had heard him breathe, like gasping, but then he quit. I was frantically crying and praying.”

An unlikely hero

Teresa started honking because she was so desperate for help in the traffic. She caught the attention of some construction workers. They came over to find out why she was in such distress and to see if they could help.

One worker was especially helpful

This man’s name is Cavaja Holt. He reached into the dog’s mouth and somehow, he was able to dislodge the ball. But then there was another problem. Jett wasn’t breathing. So, Holt gave the animal CPR.

Holt wrote about the experience on Facebook

He wanted to share his experience with others. He said, “Today is the first time I’ve ever stuck my hand down a strange dogs throat for any reason. Not only that but [it’s] the first time I’ve ever gave any living animal mouth-to-mouth.” [sic]

The strangers were reunited online

Everyone went their separate ways once the ordeal was over. But they got the chance to reconnect over the internet. Teresa’s daughter Bliss and Holt also posted about the experience online.

This is a heartwarming story that just goes to show that strangers will often go out of their way to help other people…even dogs when they aren’t obligated to.
