Thanks to COVID-19, many of us have been spending a lot more time in our homes – and lots of us who don’t have pets have found this time to be the perfect opportunity to adopt. While the pandemic has encouraged many people to head down to local shelters and welcome a new furry adition into their lives, sadly, it’s not always great news for our pets. Lots of people have lost their jobs due to the pandemic, and when the struggle is on to feed even themselves and their families, pets are often the first ones that have to go.
However, no matter what the reason is for giving up your pet, there’s absolutely no excuse for dumping them out in the middle of nowhere.
Local shelters will always do their best to take in unwanted pets, and it’s a much safer option than leaving a domesticated animal to fend for themselves.

So when a man in Colombia was filmed abandoning his dog in the middle of a busy street, people were absolutely outraged. It was heartbreaking enough to see the man leave his dog right in the middle of a main road and then drive away, but what made things worse was the dog’s reaction to being left by himself.
Unable to think of anything else to do, the poor, confused animal began to run after the car that his owner was in.
He chased it right up the street until his little legs got too tired to run anymore, and the heartless owner didn’t even think to stop their car.
Many people get away with dumping their animals when there’s not enough evidence, but thankfully, in this case somebody had managed to capture the whole disgusting act on camera, giving officials clear proof of the man’s crime. The video was posted onto Twitter by Colombia Oscura, and it caused an uproar in the online community, with hundreds of comments and retweets.
The video’s caption, which has been translated into English, read:
“The community recalls and asks the authorities to look for a heartless man who, on the night of August 15, abandoned a little dog on a street in the town of Fontibón, Bogotá.”
In the video, you can clearly see the moment that the owner of the silver car hastily stops to let their dog out before speeding away in the opposite direction. Bystanders watching the scene whistle to the driver, in the hopes that he somehow wasn’t aware that he’d left his dog behind. But as he speeds up a hill to try and get away from the scene, it soon becomes obvious that this was a deliberate act.
The most heartbreaking part of the video has to be when the confused pooch chases after the car, making it all the way to the top of the hill before, exhausted, he simply cannot go on no more.

Many people took to the comments to express their anger towards the heartless man. One person wrote, ”
You can see how stupid the guy with the gray car is, hopefully they find his whereabouts and nail him his good fine.”
Another suggested:
“Give it to a family, donate it to someone who if they want it, but do not abandon them.”
A final person commented:
“I cannot imagine the pain of that little dog… they are so loyal and their love is so authentic.”
We hope that whoever was responsible for this disgusting act has since been found, and that his dog is now in a deserving, loving home.
