Dogs are very protective – they become fearless just to protect those they love. Aren’t we lucky to have them?

However, even our canine best-friends also have phobias. It does not matter how old they are, what breed, or gender – all dogs have one thing in common – the fear of loud noises.

That is why when there are thunderstorms, fireworks, or even loud vehicles passing by, dogs become terrified.

If you are a dog owner, you are well aware of how scared they are when it comes to loud noises.

According to AKC, “Dogs’ sensitivity to the changes in barometric pressure can trigger fearful reactions to thunder long before humans even hear it.”

It’s heartbreaking to see your beloved dog shaking in fear, trying to find a place to hide until all the loud noises stop. You can see it in their eyes and if you try to hug them, you would even feel them shaking uncontrollably.

Twitter user @Cory_1077 posted a video last March 14, 2020, that went viral. It features a toddler and his Golden Retriever, and it only lasts for one minute.

Now we know what’s happening, and the video just gives you that warm feeling inside your heart. A toddler is seen showing heartfelt compassion towards his terrified dog.

The child knew why his dog was hiding in the laundry room. He knew that because of the thunderstorm, his dog was scared, and as a very responsible and sweet dog owner, he went to his dog and started comforting him.

We can hear him talking to his Golden Retriever while caressing his head and paws. It may be gibberish for us, for his dog seems to understand him. The toddler crouched in front of his pet and started comforting him. You can see in the dog’s eyes how terrified he was, but because of his young best friend, he seemed to have calmed down a bit.

Aside from assuring him that he’s safe, the toddler also hugged his pet – letting him know that he won’t leave him.

This video just shows how pure kids and dogs are. This boy and his dog would definitely grow up to be best friends!

He may not be able to speak clearly but this toddler knows how to comfort a frightened dog. If we come across certain situations like this one, here are a few tips on how you can calm your dog:

Calm him. You don’t have to wait until your dog shows signs of stress. If you know that there will be triggers, such as fireworks, and then start to play calming music. This will help a lot.

Safe place. Put your dog in a place but don’t leave him there alone. Even if the sound is muffled, this can still cause stress. We can learn from this toddler – stay with your pup or at least give him his favorite toy or bed.

Earmuffs. Some earmuffs are specially made for dogs. It does take a while for them to get used to it, but be patient.

The heroes that we know may wear capes, but for this dog, his hero wears diapers.
