Have you ever really not wanted to do something that you know you have to do, so you end up muttering angrily under your breath the whole time?
Well this cockatoo feels your pain. It’s a pretty common fact that most animals hate going to the vets. It’s a scary place where needles can prick you and strange people can try to pick you up and noisy machines are whirring.
When the inevitable day comes and a vet appointment can’t be put off for any longer, some animals might try to hide. Others might whine or look purposefully sad to guilt-trip their owners. But this cockatoo has his own hilarious reaction when he found out he was going to the vets.
Max is a 17-year-old Moluccan cockatoo who lives in the U.S. with his owner and his sister, Dusty the cat. In a video posted on the YouTube channel Mr. Max. T.V, we can see Max’s hilarious reaction to being told that he’s going to the vets.
Max only needs to get his toenails clipped, but the sassy little guy just isn’t having any of it. At the beginning of the video, he is mumbling away to himself angrily and fluffing up his feathers. He seems to be very frustrated and refuses to look in his owner’s direction.
His owner then approaches and says to Max, “Let’s go, you’ve gotta go in your carrier!” But Max still doesn’t seem keen, and he continues to mutter angrily to himself — although it’s hard to decipher what he might be saying.
“He is only saying his own bird words, I can only imagine what they mean.” Max’s owner says. “It almost sounds like ‘I don’t wanna’ but I have never taught him those words, but he could have put them together himself. He is very smart.”
Still ranting to himself, Max decides to hide under a bookcase as a way to escape his owner. At this point, the mutterings are beginning to sound almost sadistic, and we’re starting to wonder whether Max needs a vet or an exorcist.
Max’s owner seems to feel the same way, telling his angry cockatoo, “Quit saying words like that.”
In response, Max shuffles further into his corner. It’s dark and safe in here, and maybe if he keeps really still, his owner will forget where he is.
But unfortunately for Max, he just can’t stop himself from getting worked up about the vets. It’s time to move to a new location.
Some time passes, and when Max’s owner next starts to film, Max has moved to under a desk, and he seems even angrier than before.
His mutterings turn into a full-blown tantrum and Max throws back his head, puffs out his feathers, and flaps his wings, all whilst shouting a load of gobbledygook.
Every time Max shouts, he flings his head forwards for added emphasis. It’s absolutely hilarious.
Funnily enough, Max doesn’t actually have much of an issue with the vets.
“Max just likes to be in control. He likes the vet and his attention,” his owner explains. “He just doesn’t like being made to go.”
