Pets are a great addition to our lives, and offer companionship, love, affection and a sense of purpose in life, as well as decreasing our stress levels and making us a lot less likely to be lonely.
When we think of pets, it’s often a dog or a cat that first springs to our mind, or maybe a rabbit or hamster. But surprising as it may seem, birds are actually some of the loving pets you can own, and this next video helps to prove our point.

Onni the baby umbrella cockatoo lives with his mom and dad in Tennessee, USA, and is one of the sweetest, most affectionate birds you’ll ever come across.
It’s hardly a surprise that his YouTube channel, which features videos of him playing peekaboo, chasing his family around the house and making silly noises, has over 184k subscribers, as the feel-good content instantly puts a smile on your face.
One of Onni’s most popular videos, titled, “Daddys Home, Onni Cockatoo!!” has over 7.3 million views from people all over the world.
Captioned, “Onni the baby umbrella cockatoo is ecstatic that his daddy is home from work. He can predict the time he comes home and waits at the window every day,” the video shows Onni excitedly pacing back and forth at the window as his dad makes his way up the driveway.
“Who came home?” Onni’s mom says, as the excitable bird can’t stop chattering away. “It’s daddy, oh my goodness!”
We’ve never seen a bird act like this before. Onni’s behaviour is similar to what we’d see in a dog, and it makes us realize just how loveable cockatoos can be.
As Onni’s dad makes his way through the door, Onni flies straight into his arms, telling him, “I love you.” How adorable! The bird then happily has cuddles and kisses with his dad, and you can tell that he’s been waiting all day for this moment.
We’ve never seen a more loving bird, and it’s clear that Onni’s family reciprocate that love back to him. Their sweet video is enough proof of that!
People took to the YouTube comments to share their love for Onni the cockatoo, with one person saying:
“Ohh that sweet silly noise.. “Nananana” .. It’s so lovely. Rewatching this video just brings me silly amounts of joy. I’m just sitting here by myself. Smiling like I haven’t done for days. Onni is such a treasure.”
Another added:
“This family always puts a smile on my face and my kids adore them!! Thanks for sharing these wonderful heartfelt moments.”
A final person said:
“I never appreciated that a bird could develop such a clear bond with humans. He demonstrated all the behaviours that my dogs did. He’s gorgeous.”
