Anybody could be best friends, no matter how different you are. It only takes a little effort to get to know someone or learn about a person’s interests and culture. Although, humans are not the only ones who are capable of befriending someone in this way. Apparently, this unique bird had done the same to befriend a dog.

Dogs are considered to be one of the most intelligent pets, but never underestimate birds.

Sure, dogs could learn how to shake, sit, and fetch, but birds could learn various tricks almost at the same rate, or maybe even faster. Moreover, birds like parrots could identify and imitate various sounds, even if it is human speech. The little Moluccan Cockatoo named Brandy is the same, and she is very talented at picking up sounds and making them her own.

This bird met a dog and decided to be friends with it.

Brandy has been living with her owners for more than 30 years, but she gets lonely whenever her owners leave her alone at home. Until she turned 31, and her family decided to adopt a dog. Chou Chou, a big, hairy Briard dog was welcomed to the family.

The moment Brandy saw the mutt, she knew that she wants to become friends with him. Unfortunately, she had no idea how to do it. Eventually, she realized that she had to learn how to speak like him first before anything else.

She’s desperately trying to get the dog’s attention.

Brandy made the first move by approaching Chou Chou, who was lying on the floor. She made clicking sounds with her beak, hoping that it would stir something. The dog was confused, but he never tried to shoo her away. Brandy’s plan did not work, as Chou Chou instead laid the rest of his body on the cold, tiled floor. However, the bird did not give up. She came in a second time, only this time she was barking!

This cockatoo actually learned a new language for this occasion.

Brandy started with a whining sound, then barked at the napping dog to capture his attention. She barks like a little puppy; either the bird imitated the sound to a neighborhood pub, or from Chou Chou who might just sound the same.

Regardless, it seemed that Brandy was successful in turning Chou Chou’s head, and the dog slowly showed interest toward her. The next time she passed by Chou Chou, she would circle him, communicating via her little barks and beak clicking. Chou Chou could only sniff around her as he stayed still at his post.

Her efforts paid off as it slowly paved the way to a lasting friendship.

It was amazing seeing how Chou Chou opens up slowly toward Brandy. Moreover, you would just be in awe at Brandy’s perseverance in trying to befriend the dog, even going as far as becoming a multilingual bird. You could just say that Brandy’s unyielding efforts paid off.
