Cute moments make the world go round.
Each day, we all need to have a touch of cute if we want our day to end alright. Without that touch, we find ourselves wallowing in the day-to-day and losing sight of what’s truly important… cute animals. With that knowledge in mind, it’s not surprising marketing agencies have learned to use our cute-monitors against us. At the end of the day though… do we really care?
In 2014, the Superbowl showed us a perfect example of this.
We understand that most people don’t watch the big game for the big game — they watch it for the surrounding commercials! If you think back to that game nearly seven years ago, you might remember what is now one of the most famous commercials in history. It had a horse and a little puppy and was put on by Bud Light.
The commercial followed the story of two unlikely friends becoming “buds.”
After the horse and dog met, they were repeatedly taken away from each other. The human owners, a woman who owned the dog and a man who owned the horse, had little flirts all the while. Eventually, the horse had enough and broke out in order to see his puppy friend, bringing the two humans together in the process. Puppies, horses, love, and beer, what more could you ask for?
Nearly six years after the original video, we have an update!
A good sequel, while not having the nostalgia of the first, is still something we can all look forward to! In this commercial, we get to see what happened after the ending of the other one. It doesn’t disappoint!
Opening with a classic song, we are ready to watch the reunion.
Unless you have been living under a rock, you are probably aware of the international pandemic that was just ramping up about a year ago. With the song “Don’t Stop Me Now” and an empty bar (a symptom of the pandemic), the commercial address problems that were happening then and now since it originally aired in June.
Watching shop owners opening their stores, it’s an obvious connection to the current times.
When the little lab wakes up from a nap and runs down the road, he covers quite the scenery! Crossing fences and roads, the pup is clearly determined to see someone. With a quick camera cut to the Clydesdale, we see the horse galloping in a different direction. Finally, he comes around the corner and sees his friend – the puppy!
The entire commercial is just one big statement asking people to be responsible.
Summed up in the final screen text on the video, it says:
“We can’t wait to see our buds. But when we do, let’s do it safely.”
The video was released in the midst of the harshest lockdown periods about a year ago. It’s just two buds who want to be together! All they need to do, however, is keep it responsible. A message for the times, right?
