Imagine, then, the plight of a little chihuahua named Freddie, who spent nine long years in such a mill.
It’s utterly saddening to realize that throughout his life, he never knew the comfort of a soft bed.
When Freddie was finally rescued by the National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR), he was given a bed for the first time.
His reaction to this new experience was nothing short of heartwarming.
This sweet boy, who had fathered countless litters and was used to the brink of exhaustion, was finally getting a taste of kindness.
Despite his tough past, Freddie began to show signs of recovery.
Theresa Strader, the founder of NMDR, shared with The Dodo, “Life in a cage takes a heavy toll on dogs, both physically and emotionally. Many of our dogs require extensive rehabilitation before they are ready to become family members, [but] Freddie certainly has a resilient spirit. He is a spunky little guy.”
The moment Theresa presented Freddie with his very first bed was bittersweet.
Initially puzzled, Freddie soon realized the comfort it offered. For the first time in nine years, he experienced the luxury of a soft, cozy bed.
“It’s heartbreaking to realize they have been denied the very basics until now,” Theresa reflected.
The touching moment when Freddie received his bed was captured on video and shared on Facebook.
It quickly went viral, touching the hearts of over 190,000 viewers.
Theresa observed, “Freddie loved his bed immediately. Other dogs can be more cautious and have no idea what a soft bed is for, but they learn very quickly. Freddie snuggled in from the beginning, like he knew that this was just one of many perks he will experience [now].”
Now, the next step for Freddie is to find a forever home. With his newfound fame and adorable demeanor, it’s likely he won’t have to wait long.
