Tiny Chihuahua Protects Kittens From Big, Playful Dog
Not the size of the dog in the fight— but the size of the fight in the dog. ;)

When people think of guard dogs, a Chihuahua isn’t what comes to mind. Experts like Cesar Milan name bull mastiffs, Doberman pinschers, and Rottweilers amongst some of the best guardians— but Chihuahuas? Nope, not on the list.

But one tiny Chihuahua named Charlie is determined to prove everyone wrong. Charlie is a brave little pup, patrolling the house on his tiny legs and protecting his family from unexpected threats. He’s the king of his domain and just wants to be sure everybody’s safe.

When Charlie’s family welcomed an adorable litter of smoky, grey kittens, the kindhearted Chihuahua immediately grew attached.

Every day, Charlie guarded the kittens to make sure they were safe. And for the most part, he had nothing to worry about— except for Roxie, of course.

You see, Roxie, Charlie’s sister is kind of a big kid. The energetic pup loves to play with everyone, and the kittens were no exception. Roxie had been observing the kittens for a while now, so anxious to sniff their tiny toe-beans and nudge them with her snout. Unfortunately, Roxie doesn’t know her own strength, and Charlie wasn’t about to risk his kittens getting hurt.

In this adorable video, you see Charlie protecting his beloved babies from Roxie, the play-hungry pup.

At the beginning of the minute-long clip, the litter of four kittens is huddled on the grass. Daddy Charlie keeps close watch nearby as Roxie ask the kitties to play. Jumping around and bowing at the felines, it’s clear Roxie just wants to have some fun.

Roxie bounces around the kittens playfully— until the moment Charlie decides she’s gotten a bit too close.

Seeing Roxie grow increasingly excited around the precious cargo, Charlie approaches and stands guard over the kittens. When his presence doesn’t seem to stop Roxie’s behavior, Charlie takes things into his own hands (err.. paws?).

Charlie approaches Roxie, puffing out his chest and getting between her and his babies.

He pushes up against the large black dog, letting her know who’s boss. Despite Roxie’s blatant size advantage, she doesn’t go too hard on the Chi. Maybe deep down she knows Charlie’s right— she really is too rough to play with kitties

Since being uploaded to YouTube, Charlie protecting the kittens has been viewed 2.8 million times.

It’s not often you see a tiny pup going up against such a big opponent— especially in the name of protecting kittens!

Although Chihuahuas are small and sassy, they are an extremely loyal breed. Doesn’t matter whether the chi is shy, outgoing, playful, or relaxed— they are all very loyal to the people they love. Interesting Animal Planet says: “Chihuahuas have been known to exclude members of their own family and remain faithful to only one person”, which definitely makes me wonder whether the kittens stole the big dog’s place in Charlie’s heart.

Since being uploaded a few years ago, people can’t get enough of Charlie’s bravery and spunk. Comments on the video read;

“awww, the big guy just wants to play. he’s just a big ol’ baby who don’t know how to play gently yet with tiny babies.”

“Not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog :) I love chi’s”

“This is actually really cute. That dog was so territorial over the kittens. And the other dog just wanted to play.”
