When this chicken was born in April 2017, it was supposed to live less than six weeks. The chicken was supposed to be raised for meat — after all, it is common knowledge that Cornish Cross chickens don’t live longer than that.

Fast forward four years later, the chicken is now a fully-grown rooster and he’s very much alive and living in a loving home.

But let’s go over this rooster’s story starting from 2017 when his new family adopted him.

In October 2017, Mary Bowman found out in a Facebook group about an “ugly” chicken that someone didn’t want anymore.

A former rooster owner herself, Mary had lost her beloved Julian a few months earlier, so when she saw this rooster she knew she had to save him.

Bowman adopted Boo on October 30th, hence the Halloween-inspired name.

Boo had developed a heart condition, which was getting worse due to lack of treatment. But, luckily, the avian vet Bowman took him to was able to fix the issue, and Boo has since lived happily in the Bowman home with his parents, grandma, and new baby brother.

Boo the Roo has grown into a dog-like pet who literally does everything a dog would do. He enjoys snuggling with his owners, he knows when his dinner is ready and rushes upstairs to enjoy his meal. He even waits outside the bathroom when his mom is in there.

One of Boo’s favorite activities is walks in his stroller. And, although he likes road trips, too, there’s nothing like a walk in the park or a visit to the museum.

In fact, his mom Mary once had an odd experience at the Lincoln Memorial, where dogs are not allowed. When the security staff saw the chicken, they had no idea what the protocol was for him, so after some thought — and given that Boo was wearing a diaper — they let him in.

Besides all that, Boo is also a musician, who enjoys playing the guitar and the keyboard. In fact, he composes his own music and his parents are so proud of him!

On top of that, the rooster is also interested in technology. He plays with the mobile phone, he just loves FaceTiming with his friends, while he also spends time writing emails the Bowens cannot read. He’s such a talented and multi-tasking boy.

In his free time, Boo also loves to eat cashews with his dad on the couch while watching TV, or to play video games with him.

And since his baby brother arrived, Boo has been the best big brother.

He is always around the baby, and making sure they develop a strong bond already.

This family just adores their pet chicken, and they don’t miss any chance to show it to him. Last Halloween, they all dressed up as Boo, and the result was super cute.

In the video below, you can watch Mary talk about her experience as Boo’s owner.
