If you own a pet, especially a dog, you know that some animals have a penchant for human food. They can beg and whine, flash those big round eyes and hang around the kitchen table waiting for precious scraps to fall on the floor.
Perhaps to them, human food is a forbidden fruit because animals often get scolded for eating it (and rightfully so, since some of the food can be harmful to animals, such as chocolate to dogs.)
For one pair of pet owners in Minnetonka, Minnesota, their food beggar isn’t what a typical one. For one thing, it’s a little seven-month old rescue cat who has a hunger for human food. And secondly, this little kitty doesn’t beg for food, he outright steals it!
This smooth feline criminal is named Negan. He is one of the many pets who is loved and adored by Don and Tischauna Hinrichs.
“As a tiny kitten, he would actually climb us to get to the food,” Don told The Dodo. “We’ve never had a cat this obsessed with human food before.”
“We finally decided to film him in action to show our friends just how crazy he was for people food, and then, like things do, it went viral,” Don added.
And viral it did go. The video has accumulated over 25 million views on Facebook. 25 million views, all for this hilarious little rascal! The Facebook fan page Don created for Negan also has thousands of Negan fans.
“This is what I deal with every time I eat,” Negan’s dad, Don, tells the camera. “Negan steals my food. You’d think I’d be a thinner human being with this little s*** around.”
“No – it’s my cheeseburger – my cheeseburger,” Don says. But the little cat is persistent!
Around 30 seconds in, Negan comes back for seconds! In a flash, he lands on his owner’s shoulder and steals yet another bite!
“What started as a fun little page to show our friends how Negan is around people food has exploded,” he wrote in a Facebook post. “With millions seeing the video and getting a good laugh, I just wanted to clear up a couple of things quick. I assure you Negan is well-fed! As are all of our dogs and cats, he’s just extra crazy when it comes to human food. Other than [that] he is a cuddly, loving little cat who loves all people and his fellow animals.”
“It really makes our day whenever people tell us that Negan has brought a smile to their face — especially people who have lost fur babies of their own lately,” Don said. “You never know, we would really love to see him reach ‘Grumpy Cat’ status. I think it would be fun to be walking through the mall one day and spot my little buddy’s face on a T-shirt.”
Regardless of Negan’s legacy, his antics are hilarious. And based on archived footage from Negan’s younger kitten days, he didn’t suddenly develop his food thieving skills. He’s been harnessing them since he was a baby!
