Cats are beloved pets around the world.

Many people love them because they are clean, quiet, and low maintenance. Unfortunately, even if they make wonderful pets, there are millions of homeless cats in the U.S.

One of these homeless cats was Bart, a beautiful black and white cat.

Pet owner Anna was already fostering cats when she saw a stray cat outside her home. The cat was Bart. At first, he didn’t go near her or her roommate and would just watch them from afar.

After they gave him food, he kept on coming back to them. Sometimes, he would sit on their r window ledge waiting for them.

At night, he would scratch and paw the window until they noticed him.

However, Anna couldn’t let Bart in because they already had a cat and were also fostering other cats.

For the first few months, Bart didn’t mind them. “The first time he showed any interest in us, he was in the window. My roommate just reached her hand out and started to pet him,” Anna told The Dodo.

After that incident, Bart wanted them to be outside to pet and play with him all the time.

Anna shared that Bart loved being petted and couldn’t get enough of them. Sometimes, he would just lie on the ground waiting for them to come and play with him.

Bart wasn’t comfortable around them until after five or six months of hanging around outside their home.

He started following Anna around all the time, crying when she had to leave him and go somewhere.

He finally sat on her lap and Anna realized that he desperately needed love and attention. “I knew I could not leave him behind.”

When Anna moved, she borrowed a trap from the Humane Society to catch Bart and bring him with her.

After eight hours, they finally got him into a cage.

They moved into a new home, and Bart was initially unsure about his new environment. He was tentative when he moved around their new bedroom.

“Once he heard my voice, it was like he immediately recognized, ‘I’m with somebody safe.'”
