Any combination of ‘cat + another animal’ can make the average cat owner nervous.

But a small bird? Birdies are natural prey for kitties. If anything, when these two meet, the birdie would not stand a chance. These are the laws of nature. Every animal lover knows if you’re looking for a happy ending, do not let a cat and a bird anywhere near each other!

When Irina Stepanova adopted a parakeet into her home in Chelyabinsk, Russia, she knew her 10-year-old cat Bonifazii may be unsure about the decision.

Birdies and kitties don’t always get along— but still, Stepanova had no way of knowing the unbelievable events that were about to transpire.

The little parakeet is named Yasha. He is a talkative little birdie with loads of energy!

“I began to let [Yasha] out of the cage. He flew and Bonifazii calmly watched the parrot. Then Yasha landed on the floor and met the cat.” Stepanova told The Dodo of their their initial introduction.

After a (surprisingly) good meeting, Irina was sure Bonifazii would be kind and gentle with his new friend. Yasha, for his part, loved riding on Bonifazii’s back or flying overhead as the kitty ran around outside. Pretty soon, the two were inseparable.

“Whenever I’m home, the parrot cage is always open. Bonifazii is a tolerant cat, and very gentle,” Stepanova said.

The unlikely pair soon began creating their own little games and formed an incredibly close bond. One of their favorites is hide-and-seek.

Yashi watches out for Bonifazii while he sleeps. He perches above the kitty’s fluffy body, protecting him as he dozes.

However, there’s also the distinct possibility he’s patiently waiting for his big buddy to wake up and have more fun!

Bonifazzii and Yasha spend loads of time relaxing together. They love looking out the window at the activities outside.

Bird watching, perhaps?

Nobody can break this bond!

Even when Yasha nips at Bonafazii’s toes, the docile kitty is completely unfazed. This bird-loving cat is 100% content just watching his little buddy cuddle and explore his fur.

After 5 whole years of bonding, Yasha and Bonafazii couldn’t love each other more!

I think it’s safe to say these BFFs are definitely connected for life. Despite the fact that cats are natural enemies to small birds, these two loving pets have shown that it doesn’t always work that way. Yasha and Bonafazii’s friendship is a testament to how two completely different creatures can still somehow manage to love each other and get along.
