Optical illusions are illusions that occur when the visual system perceives images differently than they appear in objective reality. The information that is gathered by your eye is then processed in your brain. With an optical illusion, the perception is not equal to the physical measurement of the stimulus source.
Optical illusions can be placed into three different categories.
According to Wikipedia, literal optical illusions create images that are different from the objects that make them. Physiological illusions occur when there is excessive stimulation of a specific type, such as brightness, color, size, or movement. Pathological illusions occur from a pathological exaggeration in in the physiological visual perception mechanisms that cause the other types of illusions.
And humans aren’t the only ones who respond to optical illusions. Apparently, animals do too! Take this cat for example. A YouTube user that goes by the name SquirrelMaster posted a hilarious video of his cat being mesmerized as a human would be by an optical illusion on the piece of paper.
The cat just stares at the paper for awhile completely bewildered by what he was seeing.
You can tell that his mind is completely blown by whatever he is looking at. You can also tell that he doesn’t actually know what he’s looking at and kind of looks confused.
So, the cat does the only thing a cat would know how to do in a situation like that. He attacks. He bounces on that paper and attempts to destroy the strange thing that is before him.
He seems to get confused again and takes a step back.
He tries to refocus his eyes to no avail. Then he tries to paw at what he’s seeing. He swats at the paper then pounces on it. That’s obviously not working. So he takes a step back again. After a few seconds, he starts attacking again.
This time he tries to bite the illusions before him and starts ripping at the paper with his mouth and reduces it to shreds that way. I guess this cat’s motto is if you can’t beat it… destroy it.
This video is beyond adorable and absolutely hilarious.
