“He nuzzles them, uses them as a pillow to rest, or just stands over them guarding them,” Lydia Coutré, Ozzy’s human sister told The Dodo. “[He] was introduced to them the first peach season our family had him. He found them on the table and immediately started rubbing on them the first time he was around them, so we think it’s probably the feeling of the peaches that he likes.”
Ozzy’s owners leave the peaches out on sheets of newspaper to help them ripen.
Keeping the peaches away from Ozzy can prove to be quite the task.
“My mom once put the peaches in the basement to keep them away from Ozzy,” Coutré explained. “But he still found them, and left a cat-sized hole in the middle of what were previously neat rows of peaches.”
But Ozzy doesn’t like all round orange-colored fruit.
“Ozzy hates clementines,” Coutré said. “He smells them, makes a face, turns up his nose and runs away. Ozzy doesn’t cuddle any other fruit — just peaches.”
“My parents’ cat inexplicably LOVES peaches, and it’s the most delightful thing. They send regular picture updates to the family group chat of this cat just chilling with the peaches. It’s the most important notification I get to my phone,” she Tweeted.
Lydia’s post has been shared 72,000 times and was liked more than 197,000 times.
“I’m just glad the internet loves him as much as we do,” Coutré added. “And perhaps we’ll buy him some out-of-season peaches to keep him company.”
She says she’s sure to show the people at the roadside fruit stand that just how much Ozzy loves their peaches.
