If you hear the term “Otitis,” you might think that it’s a familiar word and you’re not wrong.

Otitis Externa, according to MSD MANUAL, is a common ear infection in cats.

This is where Otitis the cat got his name.

Otitis had previous owners, they also knew about the infection but they were not able to treat the medical condition. It was because they didn’t have the money to go through the surgery.

Because of the severe infection and cysts, the doctors removed the cat’s ears.

After recuperating, they changed his name to “Otitis.”

Molly Lichtenwalner had been in an accident last 2015; this caused her to suffer from anxiety.

She knew only a pet could help her heal. That’s why a year later, in 2016, she tried looking for a pet who had special needs and one who is older.

Molly instantly fell in love with her new cat.

“I helped train my parents’ deaf Old English Sheepdog, and when I came across Otitis, I just knew he was meant for me. I always wanted to adopt an animal that was older and had some special needs; the ones the least likely to find a home (unlike kittens),” Molly told in her interview with PEOPLE.

Knowing that Otitis has lost most of his hearing, Molly expected little from her new fluffy friend, but she was wrong.

According to her, Otitis adjusted quickly to his new life.

He helped Molly with her anxiety, and that was a great part of her healing. When she was down, Otitis was there to give her snuggles.

“I didn’t rescue him, he rescued me,” Molly shared.

After moving on from her traumatic past, Molly wanted to inspire other people, and to do this, she created an Instagram account for her pet, Otitis.

Otitis soon garnered many fans, and everyone who saw him fell in love with his charisma and his adorable look.

Because of his unique features, he started resembling a white seal.

So when Molly saw a small, fluffy, blue-eyed stuffed toy seal, she knew she had to buy it.

The stuffed toy looked so much like her Otitis.

True enough, Otitis loved his new toy. It seems like Otitis knew about their similarities because they were inseparable.

They love to snuggle and they both look so adorable.

The book is all about Otitis, of course.

It features his journey, what made him different from other cats, his joys in life, and how he handles his uniqueness.

Molly and Jessica aim for kids to see that being different is not a bad thing and they hope that through their book, more kids would embrace their uniqueness.
