Ginger is a friendly feline who is a known cuddle-monster and scaredy-cat. Socks on the floor? You better not! Ginger finds them downright terrifying! Ginger never figured out hunting and doesn’t have a mean bone in her furry body. And even though she’s scared of harmless things like socks and paper, when it comes to the wild animals that frequent her Alaskan home, this kitty is not phased. In fact, she seems to think they’re new friends!

If you’ve ever seen a moose, you’d know how terrifyingly HUGE they are. And if they have their babies with them, you’d better give them some space. Ginger, however, seems to have missed the memo.

Being such a jumpy kitty that seemed to be afraid of everything, Ginger’s human Tammy Simpson was surprised to see her so interested in the local wildlife outside her home. Whenever a moose comes for a visit, Ginger greets them with enthusiasm and joy!

Of course, Tammy was worried at first. Moose are large and scary animals. The Alaskan moose, in particular, is the biggest in the world. Although they tend not to be aggressive, they will charge at you and are able to run up to 35 miles an hour!

But how do moose feel about cats? Cats are tiny compared to these giant creatures! As far as size goes, no animal that large should be worried about a curious fuzzball of a cat!

“She’s not bothering them. I’ve never seen a moose get, like, really upset,” Tammy told The Dodo.

In fact, most of the moose seem more interested in Ginger anything! Here, we see one waltz right up to the house and try to give her a big, sloppy moose kiss!

Ginger favors baby moose, though. She’s a bit braver with them, and the mama moose don’t seem to mind her curiosity. Ginger is perplexed by the moose and spends much of her time studying them. And, as it turns out, the moose seem interested in studying her too!

They need to take their time, though! When a mama moose gets too close too fast, Ginger runs back to her mamma Tammy.

Interestingly, moose aren’t the only animal Ginger likes to investigate! Sandhill cranes are large, tall birds with long legs and necks. These giant birds let out a loud call that would typically make a cat run far away. But not little Ginger, of course!

“I honestly have no idea where she got her brave streak. Since about two years ago, she’s been approaching moose and sandhill cranes each summer. I’m sure it was something to do with the wildlife literally being in our backyard,” Tammy told Anchorage Daily News (ADN).

Unfortunately, Ginger’s love for wild animals could also be dangerous. Jessy Coltrane, a wildlife biologist with Alaska Department of Fish and Game warns against this risky behavior. “Young [moose] are very vulnerable, and mothers are especially aggressive this time of year. The thing with moose is they can go from 0 to 60 in, like, six seconds. So, if they’re showing any signs of stress get away,” he said.

In a place like Alaska, wild animals are hard to avoid. But knowing how unpredictable these animals can be, Tammy always keep a close eye on Ginger while she’s out on these adventures. “I hold my breath every time and hope she’s quick enough to get out of any sticky situations,” Ginger’s owner told ADN.

Ginger has been hanging out with the Alaskan wildlife for over 2 years, so it’s fair to say this kitty has her business handled. In fact, Tammy has a YouTube channel specifically dedicated to Ginger’s cross-species friendships, and the videos will melt your heart.
