When Cortney Adams visited the Humane Society in Tucson, Arizona in 2013, she was immediately drawn to a unique little kitten. This tiny kitten was born with radial dysplasia, which resulted in him having malformed arms. But the kitten didn’t let this get him down—he simply hopped around!

Adams adopted the kitten that day. She immediately thought of the perfect name for him: Joey Roo!

Joey Roo quickly settled into Adams’ house, and he got along well with all her pets. Adams also fosters cats and dogs, and Joey Roo always welcomes them into the house! He even gets along with the rats Adams fosters!

Adams’ documents Joey Roo’s daily adventures on his Facebook page. She uses this page to show how wonderful adopting a disabled pet can be.

“Being born without front legs has taught me that life isn’t about appearances, it’s about what you make of life and your adventures,” Adams wrote in Joey Roo’s voice on Facebook.

Adams made sure to give Joey Roo an accessible cat tree.

She built a little ladder for the cat, which allows him to easily hop onto the tree. The cat loves it!

When Joey Roo sees something he wants, he’ll go to incredible lengths to get it. This was the case when he saw birds in his garden and decided he wanted to chase them. On Facebook, “Joey Roo” wrote:

“So, yesterday morning mom noticed that I was trying to get closer to the birds, so she moved the chair away so I couldn’t jump up… Well today she realized that I didn’t need that chair to accomplish my goal and she found me on the fence this morning. Note: this fence is 5 feet 8 inches and the tires used to jump up on are about 4 1/2 to 5 feet tall.”

While Joey Roo is able to get everywhere he wants on his two good legs, this can get tiring for him. And so, Adams got him some custom-made wheels. Joey Roo loves them!

Unfortunately, in mid-August 2018, Joey Roo’s health took a turn for the worse, and he was diagnosed with a urinary blockage. Thankfully, his diligent mom caught the problem early, and because of that, the cat should be okay. Soon, Joey Roo will be up and hopping just like before!
