If you have ever owned a cat, you know just how crafty these animals can be.

Cats are the internet’s favorite animal partly because of how erratic their behavior can be. On the one hand, cats often act like predators stalking their prey, a habit likely inherited from their bigger ancestral cousins like lions and tigers. On the other hand, cats are so small that they can often be skittish and anxious. Above all though, cats make great companions because they are independent as well as cunning and intelligent.

Cats can even outsmart their owners, a habit that can be a little bit irritating.

Everyone knows the struggle of morning routines when it comes to owning pets.

Our animals often rise before we do and are eager to play with us and greet us before we even have our bearings. That was the case for the couple in the video below, who thought they had figured out the best way to sleep in a little in the morning. When their bedroom door was open, their cat would hop into bed with them before it was time to wake up, thrashing around and generally causing chaos. To fight back, they decided to sleep with their door closed.

Unfortunately, their clever little kitty found a way around their plan.

Since the cat couldn’t open the door himself, he figured out how to force his owners to open it for him.

As the clip shows, the cat inspects the closed door carefully. After a moment, he cocks his hind leg and gives the door a few gentle knocks on the wood paneling. Still, this is just the initial warning. When the door still doesn’t open, he rapid-fire kicks the door just a little louder. When there is still no answer he completely lets loose, kicking the door as fast as he can and rattling the door practically off of its track!

As the noise gets louder and louder, his owners have no choice but to let him in.

The clip has been viewed nearly a million times on YouTube and serves as a testament to the craftiness of cats.

Although we love our pets dearly, they can really be a pain sometimes. Sorry, cat owners—closing the bedroom door won’t help you sleep in anymore. It looks like the cats are onto us. Who knows? Maybe cats are just the universe’s way of forcing us to be morning people.
