This is a story about two best friends. Two best friends who happen to be a cat and a horse. Louis the cat was introduced to his bestie Comet the horse by their human Emma Massingale.
According to Love Meow, Emma is a professional horse trainer in North Devon, England.
She came across Louis, who is a Siamese, at her friend’s house when he was just a baby cat. She ended up being smitten by the kitten and it just so happened that he was in the market for a new home.
“His owner then went through a separation and she couldn’t keep Louis so I, of course, said I would have him,” Emma told Love Meow.
Louis got cozy in his new home and with his new owner right away. Not wanting to be a freeloader, Louis decided he would help Emma out with her chores and followed her into the stables every day to tend to the horses.
It is there that he made his new best friend.
“He started off just following me to the stable and walking along the walls or fences nudging the horses with his head,” Emma said. “Then he started to jump on their backs and sit there or jump on and then off the other side to get somewhere.”
And the horses didn’t mind one bit. They actually nuzzled him right back. One horse, in particular, named Comet grew especially fond of him.
Comet even let Louis ride him.
“Don’t normally let anyone ride my liberty horses but I think Louis is the Purrrrfect apprentice! lol” Emma wrote in the caption of a video she posted on Facebook.
Now, you can spot the two walking through the woods and enjoying a leisurely stroll.
“Comet and Louis seem to be a good combo. If he wants the horse to stop he bites the pony’s mane. It’s crazy but funny to watch,” Emma explains. “If Louis gets bored he just jumps off but he seems to love it as he stays up there for ages.”
People often do a double take of this odd couple when they see them riding together.
“Oh my goodness, that’s amazing! Are any of your animals normal?!!! (When I say normal, I mean boring!)” said one person on Facebook.
When Louis isn’t hanging out in the stable or outside you’ll often find him cuddled up with Emma’s other cats and dog.
